Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) primarily originates from the minor and major salivary glands of the head and neck regions. ACC affecting the eye and orbit (including the lacrimal gland, sac, and duct) was determined to account for about 1.8% of all cases. A poor overall prognosis and a tendency for local recurrence and metastasis despite vigorous therapy characterize lacrimal gland ACCs. There are no clear-cut guidelines for treating these rare tumors in unusual places, but recent literature suggests orbital excision with or without bone removal instead of globe-sparing resection and adjuvant

OBJECTIVE: Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is a rare malignancy that most often originates in the salivary glands. While it commonly metastasizes to the lungs, liver, and bone, central nervous system involvement, particularly of the pituitary gland, is exceedingly rare. The objective of this report is to describe a patient with ACC of the submandibular gland presenting with pituitary metastasis manifesting as panhypopituitarism and diabetes insipidus (DI).
CASE REPORT: A 64-year-old female presented with intractable vomiting, abdominal pain, and worsening blurry vision. She had a recent diagno

Lacrimal adenoid cystic carcinoma (LACC) is one of the most common malignant epithelial tumors of the lacrimal gland, characterized by high rates of local recurrence, distant metastases, and tumor-related mortality. This malignancy impairs the lacrimal gland's ability to secret tears, thereby disrupting the normal function of the ocular surface. Due to ineffective diagnostic approaches and the complex anatomical location of the lacrimal gland within the orbit, many LACC patients are often diagnosed at the later stages. Therefore, it is urgent to develop a simple and convenient method for early

BACKGROUND: Esophageal adenoid cystic carcinoma (EACC) is an exceedingly rare malignant tumor of the esophagus, posing significant challenges in the clinic.
CASE SUMMARY: This report detailed the case of a 72-year-old male whose diagnosis of EACC was confirmed through postoperative histopathological examination. The patient underwent thoracoscopy-assisted radical resection of the esophageal tumor, coupled with lymph node dissection. Pathological findings revealed an adenoid cystic carcinoma infiltrating the entire layer of the muscularis propria, locally extending into the outer membrane of t

OBJECTIVES: Adenoid hypertrophy causes impaired nasopharyngeal airways (NA) ventilation. However, it is difficult to evaluate the ventilatory conditions of NA. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the nasopharyngeal airway resistance (NARES) based on computational fluid dynamics simulations and the nasopharyngeal airway depth (NAD) and adenoid hypertrophy grade measured on cephalometric cone-beam computed tomography images and determine the relationship between NAD and grade and NARES to ultimately assess using cephalometric measurements whether NA has airway obstruction defects.

Administering aerosol drugs through the nasal pathway is a common early treatment for children with adenoid hypertrophy (AH). To enhance therapeutic efficacy, a deeper understanding of nasal drug delivery in the nasopharynx is essential. This study uses an integrated experimental, numerical modelling approach to investigate the delivery process of both the aerosol mask delivery system (MDS) and the bi-directional delivery system (BDS) in the pediatric nasal airway with AH. The combined effect of respiratory flow rates and particle size on delivery efficiency was systematically analyzed. The re

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) of the submandibular gland is a rare and highly aggressive malignancy, distinguished by its tendency for perineural invasion and distant metastasis, particularly to the lungs and bones. The management of ACC is challenging due to its biological variability and the absence of specific randomized controlled trials to guide treatment. This report aims to encapsulate the clinical features, histological profile, diagnostic workup, and management options for submandibular gland ACC, with an emphasis on recent advancements in understanding and treatment. We present the

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is an uncommon and aggressive head and neck cancer mainly affecting minor salivary glands. It affects more women than men in their 60s and 70s. The tumor is typically locally aggressive and has a high rate of distant metastatic disease. This report unveils a potential avenue for targeted therapy for the management of metastatic disease: a patient with ACC who harbored a specific fibroblast growth factor receptor 2 (FGFR-2) mutation and responded significantly to a novel FGFR-2 inhibitor. This finding could pave the way for personalized treatment options for ACC p

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is a rare malignant tumor that affects the salivary glands. Its notable characteristics include aggressive local growth, infiltration of nerves (perineural invasion), a propensity to disseminate to other parts of the body (metastasize), and a high likelihood of recurrence. Here, we present the case of a 71-year-old male patient who presented with swelling on the posterior left side of his tongue, which had been causing him difficulty in chewing for the past six months. The parotid gland is frequently impacted in the head and neck area, with the tongue being compa

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (AdCC) is a slow-growing salivary gland malignancy that relapses frequently. AdCCs of the submandibular gland exhibit unique differences in prognosis and treatment response to adjuvant radiotherapy compared to other sites, yet the role of tumor anatomic subsite on gene expression and tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) composition remains unclear. We used 87 samples, including 48 samples (27 AdCC and 21 normal salivary gland tissue samples) from 4 publicly available AdCC RNA sequencing datasets, a validation set of 33 minor gland AdCCs, and 39 samples from an in-house

OBJECTIVE: Local recurrence, distant metastasis, and perineural invasion (PNI) viciously occur in salivary adenoid cystic carcinoma (SACC), resulting in a poor prognosis. This study aimed to explore the mechanism by which circular RNA RNF111 (circ-RNF111) regulates PNI in SACC by targeting the miR-361-5p/high mobility group box 2 (HMGB2) axis.
METHOD: Circ-RNF111 and HMGB2 were highly expressed in SACC specimens, while miR-361-5p was underexpressed. Functional experiments showed that ablating circ-RNF111 or promoting miR-361-5p hindered the biological functions and PNI of SACC-LM cells.

Cystic adenoid carcinoma (ACC) is a rare malignant epithelial tumor arising from exocrine glands and accounts for only 1% of head and neck cancers. ACCs are common in the fifth and sixth decades of life, predominantly in women, and characterized by slow progression, local aggression, recurrence, and high metastasis. Subglottotracheal ACC is a rare tumor in the pediatric population, with only a few cases reported in the literature. We present a case of a 16-year-old female who was diagnosed with ACC in the subglottic and tracheal region. The patient presented with respiratory failure but withou
