In this study, eight perfluorinated alkyl substances (PFASs) and five thyroid hormones (TSH, FT4, FT3, TGAb, and TMAb) were determined in 202 human serum samples of the general population of Guangdong, Guangxi and Hainan provinces in southern China. Σ8PFASs concentrations ranged from 0.85 to 24.3 ng/mL with a mean value of 4.66 ng/mL. The PFASs composition profiles of human serum samples nearly make no difference at different locations. Alkynes usually oligomerize to give rings with a conjugated π-electron system. In contrast, phosphaalkynes, R-C≡P, frequently give compounds with polycyclic structures, which are thermodynamically more stable than the corresponding π-conjugated isomers. The syntheses of the first C3 P3 tricyclic compounds are reported with either radical or cationic ground states stabilized by cyclic (alkyl)(amino)carbenes (CAACs). These compounds may be considered as examples of tricarbontriphosphide coordinated by carbenes and are likely formed via trimerization of the corresponding mono-radicals CAAC-CP. .

We aimed to estimate the levels and time trends of perfluorinated alkyl acids (PFAAs) in serum of 1533 Danish pregnant nulliparous women between 2008 and 2013. The reaction of L-serine derived N-arylnitrones with alkylarylketenes generates asymmetric 3-alkyl-3-aryloxindoles in good to excellent yields (up to 93%) and excellent enantioselectivity (up to 98% ee) via a pericyclic cascade process. The optimization, scope and applications of this transformation are reported, alongside further synthetic and computational investigations. The preparation of the enantiomer of a Roche anti-cancer agent (RO4999200) 1 (96% ee) in three steps demonstrates the potential utility of this methodology.

This study tested the hypothesis that hydrophilic chemotypes of the medicinal vine Uncaria tomentosa (UT) would facilitate recovery of sensorineural functions following exposure to a damaging level of noise. Hypoxia represents an important therapeutic target in tumors because of the resistance of hypoxic cells to radiotherapy and chemotherapy and because it is more severe in many tumors than in normal tissues. Here, we describe a class of prodrugs, nitro-chloromethylindolines, which undergo hypoxia-selective activation by endogenous nitroreductases in tumor cells to form the corresponding amino compounds. Alpha-alkyl amino acids can be efficiently prepared in high yields from the respective amino acids themselves. The key step is the oxidation of the amine function to create the corresponding alpha-nitro acid in a fast and very high yield reaction followed by phase-transfer alkylation and finally reduction to the desired alpha-alkyl amino acid. Several such acids containing aromatic rings or additional carboxylic groups and acids with steric hindrance at the alpha-position are suitable substrates.
