Knowledge structure and thematic evolution of host response-oriented sepsis research: a multi-database bibliometric and LDA topic modeling study.

OBJECTIVE: To characterize the knowledge structure, thematic domains, and temporal evolution of host response-oriented sepsis research and to summarize its major research themes, organizational patterns, and temporal shifts. METHODS: Publications related to host response, immune phenotypes, endotypes, and multimarker stratification in adult sepsis were retrieved from Web of Science Core Collection, Scopus, and PubMed. A total of 5,839 records were identified. After exclusion of two records with missing titles, 5,837 records entered a two-stage deduplication workflow based on DOI matching foll

Traumatic brain injury in China: an update on epidemiology, care pathways, and clinical research.

The burden of traumatic brain injury (TBI) remains a challenge worldwide, and also in China. Since 2019, considerable changes in the epidemiology and characteristics of TBI have occurred, driven by social and economic factors, such as population ageing and the increasing use of mopeds for road transportation. Concurrently, substantial progress has been made in clinical research, including the implementation of high-quality studies on innovative treatments, such as long-term mild hypothermia for severe TBI, right median nerve stimulation for awakening patients in coma after a brain injury, and

Emerging therapeutic pipelines on kidney fibrosis: challenges in translational research.

BACKGROUND: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is estimated that by 2040, it will be the 5th highest cause of years of life lost globally due to the aging population and the rising prevalence of age-related diseases such as hypertension and diabetes. Therefore, a deep comprehension of the biological and molecular mechanisms underlying kidney fibrosis is urgently needed to facilitate the development of new therapeutic strategies that can hinder disease progression and simultaneously address the comorbidities associated with CKD. MAIN BODY: In the last years numerous studies have elucidated the comple

Trends and Research Hotspots in Biomarkers of Sjögren's Syndrome Over the Past Two Decades: A Data-Driven Atlas Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Sjögren's syndrome (SS) is a chronic, systemic inflammatory disorder primarily characterized by dry eyes and dry mouth, often involving multiple organ systems. The disease's heterogeneous clinical presentation and the absence of non-invasive, specific biomarkers complicate its diagnosis and prognostic assessment. METHODS: Literature was sourced from the Web of Science Core Collection, and a bibliometric network was constructed using VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and Bibliometrix. This analysis covered countries/regions, institutions, journals, authors, citations, and keywords, offering an

Clinical Translation of Ultrasound Localization Microscopy: A Narrative Review of Current Applications and Future Directions.

Microvascular dysfunction plays a pivotal role in numerous diseases, often preceding clinical symptoms and structural changes. Ultrasound localization microscopy (ULM) is an emerging ultrasound imaging modality that enables in vivo visualization of microvascular structures with unprecedented resolution. This narrative review aimed to examine the recent clinical applications of ULM and its role in biomarker development. It was conducted following PRISMA 2020 guidelines and included 33 articles published up to November 2025, focusing on ULM in human studies. Inclusion criteria targeted studies e

Roadmap for direct and indirect translation of optogenetics into discoveries and therapies for humans.

Optogenetics has transformed basic research on neural circuitry, led to diverse experimental insights into human brain function and dysfunction, and opened pathways for clinical translation based on new understanding of how specific cell types contribute to cognition and behavior. Many of these translational pathways do not rely on the direct application of optogenetics in humans, but rather develop and advance other treatment modalities by leveraging causal knowledge derived from optogenetic circuit neuroscience. However, a recent proof-of-principle study-showing that optogenetics applied dir

Exploring ethical considerations in medical research: Harnessing pre-generated transformers for AI-powered ethics discussions.

INTRODUCTION: In medical research involving human subjects, ethical review is essential to protect individuals. However, concerns have been raised about variations in ethical review opinions and a decline in review quality. Adequately protecting human subjects requires multifaceted opinions from ethics committee members. Despite the need to increase the number of committee members, resources are limited. To address these challenges, we explored the use of a generative pre- learning transformer, an interactive artificial intelligence (AI) tool, to discuss ethical issues in medical research. ME

National research ecosystems: protecting populations and building health security worldwide.

The global clinical research enterprise remains fundamentally misaligned with worldwide disease burden and public health needs, despite corrective efforts in recent years. Although clinical trials deliver important medical advances that benefit populations globally, research capabilities and trials are concentrated in high-income countries, which means that populations with the heaviest disease burdens (often in low-income and middle-income countries) participate in relatively few trials addressing their needs-infectious and non-communicable diseases alike. This imbalance leaves knowledge gaps

Trends in Mixed Pain Research Over Three Decades (1993-2024): A Bibliometric Analysis.

BACKGROUND: The term "mixed pain" is frequently used in clinical practice to describe the coexistence of nociceptive, neuropathic, and nociplastic pain mechanisms. However, its inconsistent use and lack of a formal definition warrant further investigation. This bibliometric analysis aims to explore publication trends, research networks, and key themes in mixed pain literature. METHODS: A bibliometric analysis was conducted using the Web of Science Core Collection. Bibliometric and Visualized Analysis of Research Relating to Spinal Modic Changes Reported Over the Period 2004-2024.

OBJECTIVE: Modic changes (MC) are pathological signal alterations occurring in the vertebral endplates and adjacent bone marrow. These changes are frequently linked to degenerative disc diseases and are associated with low back pain symptoms. However, despite increasing research interest, existing studies are fragmented, mostly descriptive, and lack a comprehensive, quantitative assessment of research patterns, hotspots, and collaboration networks in this field. This study aims to evaluate the current research landscape and global trends regarding spinal MC using bibliometric analysis. METHOD
