We present the case of a six-year-old girl with severe COVID-19, in whom SARS-CoV-2 was successfully eliminated after convalescent plasma transfusion. BACKGROUND: Severe secondary or delayed postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is rare and affects 0.23-3% of all pregnancies. It happens between 24 hours to 12 weeks postdelivery. These PPHs occur more often during normal vaginal delivery; only a small subset of these PPHs occur after cesarean section. The top differential diagnoses of both primary and secondary PPH are different, and as a result, the management may be different. Although uterine atony causes 80% of primary PPHs, extensive literature review exposed the rarity of it in the setting of secondary PPH.

Hemoperitoneum is a serious and often life-threatening bleeding manifestation. This is particularly true for women who carry congenital bleeding disorders. We describe here a hemoperitoneum occurring in 1 patient with congenital prothrombin deficiency and another with congenital factor V deficiency. Both patients have been followed by us for many years. A 6-year-old female with homozygous sickle cell disease had a central venous access device (CVAD) placed to facilitate chronic erythrocytapheresis. Erythrocytapheresis was ineffective due to the rare pinch-off syndrome causing communication between the dual lumen tubing. Awareness of and monitoring for the pinch-off syndrome is indicated in people with sickle cell disease and a CVAD for chronic erythrocytapheresis.

From the spring of 2004 the United Kingdom Blood Services have been importing fresh frozen plasma from United States donors for all neonates and children born after 1 January 1996. The decision to mandate the use of American plasma in this age group was taken by the Department of Health in 2002 as part of its precautionary approach to the risk of transfusion transmitted variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. In this article we explain the background to this decision and explore some of the implications it raises for clinical practice.
