In this work, the kinetic fluorescence behavior of CdS quantum dots (QDs) in the presence of Cu(II) was investigated. In contrast to some other transition metal ions such as Ag(I), Ni(II), and Hg(II), a gradual red-shift in the emission spectrum of CdS QDs was observed for Cu(II) during the reaction course. OBJECTIVE: A possible role of antioxidants in thyreotoxicosis was investigated. We examined the parameters of lipid peroxidation (LPO): conjugated dienes (CD), malondialdehyde (MDA), Schiff bases (SB) in lung homogenates of male Wistar rats.
METHODS: Two control groups were created: Group 1 - intact animals and Group 2 - animals injected with 0,9% NaCl. In Experiment I, the animals received L-thyroxin (LT4) i.p. (Groups 3-7). After one week the rats received additionally: Group 4 - melatonin (MEL); Group 5 - propylthiouracil (PTU); Group 6 - Ambroxol (AMB); Group 7 - N-acetylocysteine (NAC).

In this study we describe, through stereological methods, the lung morphology following inhalation exposure of guinea pigs to 21 mg/m3 cotton dust (CD) for 1 year. Various stereological parameters were determined on semithin histological sections, through a multistage sampling approach, to study the reaction of the whole lung, alveolar parenchyma, and bronchioles to CD inhalation. The applicability of poly(acrylamide) grafted onto cross-linked poly(4-vinyl pyridine) (P4-VP-g-PAm) has been investigated for the separation, preconcentration and speciation of Hg(II) and MeHg(I).
