METHODS: Four groups of seven male albino mice each were used in this experiment. Group 1 served as the control, receiving no treatment. This paper reports a quantum dot (QD)-based "off-on" fluorescent biosensor specifically for the determination of glutathione (GSH) with high sensitivity. The biosensor was based on the following two properties. Cadmium (Cd) stimulates the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and causes cell damage. We investigated here the feasibility of using a cell permeable superoxide dismutase/catalase mimetic, EUK-8, to reduce the Cd-induced ROS and cytotoxicity in Chinese hamster ovary cells.
