Sixteen guinea-pigs were immunised with immune complexes isolated from serum of nine patients with rheumatoid arthritis. The resulting antisera were analysed by radioimmunoassays. All guinea-pig sera were extensively absorbed with normal human serum. After this absorption eight guinea-pig sera contained antibodies specific for immune complexes isolated from the sera of three patients. Eighty serum samples and 24 blister fluids from 51 patients with active bullous pemphigoid were tested for the presence of immune complexes by both a monoclonal rheumatoid factor (mRF) inhibition radioassay and a C1q-binding radioassay. Forty-two of the 80 serum samples were positive by the mRF assay, while 27 were positive by the C1q-binding assay. Sucrose gradient centrifugation of estrogen and progestin receptors in cytosol preparations revealed that the majority of human breast tumors contained two molecular forms sedimenting at either 8S or 4S. Few tumors exhibited profiles containing predominately the 8S form or the 4S form alone. The effect of cycloheximide on virus specific RNA synthesis in Vero cells infected with either wild-strain (Edmonston) or subacute sclerosing panencephalitis strain measles virus was investigated. Effects of echinocytosis on blood rheology and exercise performance were evaluated for 5 Thoroughbreds. Echinocytosis was induced by administration of furosemide (1 mg/kg of body weight, IM, q 12 h) for 4 days. Furosemide treatment resulted in decreases in serum sodium and serum chloride concentrations and in RBC chloride and potassium concentrations. Synaptic dysfunction is an early event in Alzheimer's disease patients and has also been detected in transgenic mouse models. In the present study, we analyzed proteomic changes in synaptosomal fractions from Tg2576 mice that overexpress mutant human amyloid precursor protein (K670N, M671L) and from their nontransgenic littermates. Cortical and hippocampal tissue was microdissected at the onset of cognitive impairment, but before deposition of amyloid plaques. Crude synaptosomal fractions were prepared by differential centrifugation, proteins were separated by 2-D DIGE and identified by MS/MS.
