Rural-urban Residence, Minority Stress, and Tobacco Use among Sexual and Gender Minority Young Adults in Oklahoma and Surrounding States.

INTRODUCTION: Sexual and/or gender minority young adults (SGM YAs) display high tobacco use rates but less is known regarding disparities among those residing in rural vs. urban areas. METHODS: Among 609 U.S. SGM YAs (ages 18-25) who completed 2023/2024 surveys, multivariable regressions examined associations of: 1) rurality (vs. urbanicity) with minority stressors (negative behaviors from parents, discrimination, less peer support and SGM community connectedness); and 2) rurality and minority stressors with tobacco use for those assigned female (AFAB) or male (AMAB) at birth, separately. Universal Prevention Strategies to Prevent Opioid Misuse on a U.S. College Campus.

Opioid misuse and risk of death due to overdose are critical public health issues and young adults are at risk. College campus communities are ideal settings for the prevention of opioid misuse among young adults due to high enrollment rates, the diversity and availability of resources within the campus community, and the range of risk and protective factors that can be targeted. This practitioner narrative describes a grant-funded three-year opioid misuse prevention project implemented on a U.S. college campus. In keeping with the focus of the grant, the project involved a range of universal

Facilitating factors and barriers for use of medications to treat opioid use disorder (MOUD) among justice-involved individuals in rural Appalachia.

The purpose of this qualitative study is to assess facilitating factors and barriers for medications to treat opioid use disorder (MOUD) initiation among justice-involved individuals in one rural Appalachian community, as well as how those factors may differ across the three types of Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved medications. Qualitative interviews were conducted with rural justice-involved individuals (N = 10) with a history of opioid use in the target community. Overall, participants demonstrated knowledge of the different types of MOUD and their pharmacological properties, but

Prevalence and correlates of lifetime disordered gambling in Cambodian refugees residing in Long Beach, CA.

BACKGROUND: Research has suggested that disordered gambling is endemic to Cambodian refugees. Whereas earlier study of the prevalence and correlates of disordered gambling has relied on convenience sampling, this investigation used a subset of a sample representative of the largest Cambodian refugee community in the US. METHODS: Face-to-face interviews assessing gambling disorder were conducted with a subsample of persons (N = 127) participating in a broader study of the mental health of this community. RESULTS: 13.9% of participants met screening criteria for lifetime disordered gambling, i

Perceived barriers and facilitators to family and community nurses' care for older adults: a descriptive qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: The aging population is becoming a growing challenge for health care systems, pushing toward the need for systemic adaptations. In Italy, the role of the Family and Community Nurse (FCN) was introduced as a response to these demographic changes, aimed at ensuring personalized and integrated care for the older adults at the national level. Despite national institutional recognition, the implementation of the FCN role varies considerably across regions, resulting in uneven and fragmented service delivery. To better understand this variability, the present study aimed to describe the

Diversity and correlation of endophytic microbiota and Shikonin accumulation in Arnebia Euchroma roots across geographical origins.

Arnebia euchroma(Royle) Johnst. is a high-value medicinal plant. Owing to depleted wild resources and inferior quality of artificially cultivated populations, it currently faces a supply-demand imbalance. As endogenous regulators of plant growth and secondary metabolism, endophytes may influence the quality of medicinal materials. However, their role in A. euchroma remains unreported, as existing studies have primarily focused on the impacts of environmental factors. High-throughput sequencing and bioinformatics were employed to analyze the community characteristics of endophytes in the roots

Psychological resilience and psychological status among community-dwelling older adults: a cross-sectional study in China.

INTRODUCTION: In aging societies, promoting psychological well-being among older adults is crucial. While psychological resilience is known to benefit mental health, less is understood about how external resources-specifically cultural and environmental resilience-influence psychological status (life satisfaction and depression) via resilience pathways in older populations. This study investigated these associations and their cross-sectional indirect associations through psychological resilience. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 508 community-dwelling adults aged ≥60 in We

Determinants of Fall Prevention Guideline Implementation in the Home- and Community-Based Service Setting.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Home- and community-based service (HCBS) recipients often possess multiple fall risk factors, suggesting that the implementation of evidence-based fall prevention guidelines may be appropriate for the HCBS setting. The purpose of this exploratory study was to examine the determinants of fall prevention guideline implementation and the potential strategies that can support implementation in HCBS organizations. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: Semistructured interview and focus group data were collected from 26 HCBS professionals representing the home-delivered meals, per

A Primary Care Provider's Guide to Accessibility After Spinal Cord Injury.

Individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI) continue to have shorter life expectancies, limited ability to receive basic health care, and unmet care needs when compared to the general population. Primary preventive health care services remain underutilized, contributing to an increased risk of secondary complications. Three broad themes have been identified that limit primary care providers (PCPs) in providing good quality care: physical barriers; attitudes, knowledge, and expertise; and systemic barriers. Making significant physical alterations in every primary care clinic is not realistic, but

Intergenerational support and depressive symptoms: Moderating effects of community services and smart health devices.

OBJECTIVE: Prior research suggests that intergenerational support can buffer depressive symptoms among older adults, yet the roles of community services and digital health technologies remain under-explored. We examined whether community service support and use of smart-health devices moderate the association between intergenerational support and depressive symptoms among Chinese older adults. METHODS: We analyzed two waves (2018, 2020) of the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS), including 4054 older adults. A multilevel mixed-effects model was employed to account for both c

Committee opinion no. 454: Healthcare for homeless women.

Homelessness continues to be a growing problem in the United States. With increasing unemployment and home foreclosures, the recent recession and current economic difficulties are estimated to result in more than 1 million Americans experiencing homelessness through 2011. Women and families represent the fastest growing segment of the homeless population. Health care for these women is a challenge but an issue needed health care than women who are not homeless. ACOG committee opinion, number 312, August 2005: healthcare for homeless women.

Homelessness is a considerable social and health problem in the United States with far-reaching effects on the health of homeless women. Homeless women are at higher risk for injury and illness and are less likely to obtain needed health care than women who are not homeless. It is critical to undertake efforts to prevent homelessness. Until this can be accomplished, community-based services targeted specifically to this population that provide both health care and support services are essential. Health care providers can help address the needs of the homeless by identifying their own patients

Academic cancer centershave multidisciplinary teams, offer rapid and advanced diagnostics, and provideaccess to novel therapies. Community cancer centers provide care closer to home, especially for underserved and rural populations, but their resources and expertise vary. Effective collaboration between academic and community cancer centerscanimproveaccess to advanced therapies, reduce treatment disparities, and bringcare closer to home. Quantitative Study on the Impact of Energy Consumption Based Dynamic Selfishness in MANETs.

Cooperative communication and resource limitation are two main characteristics of mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs). On one hand, communication among the nodes in MANETs highly depends on the cooperation among nodes because of the limited transmission range of the nodes, and multi-hop communications are needed in most cases. On the other hand, every node in MANETs has stringent resource constraints on computations, communications, memory, and energy. These two characteristics lead to the existence of selfish nodes in MANETs, which affects the network performance in various aspects. In this paper
