A retrospective and descriptive study composed of HIV and AIDS seropositive patients was conducted, 90 patients with infections caused by herpes simplex and zoster varicella were taken as a sample. Percentage was applied to them. Within the opportunistic infections, those caused by microorganisms from the Herpes viridae family, such as herpes simplex virus type I and II, cytomegalovirus, hoster varicella, and Epstein Barr's virus are very frequent among these patients. Determinations of neutralizing antibodies to the strain 47/93 IPK (CA9) and to the strain 590 were performed in serum samples from patients presenting with epidemic neuropathy and from a group of seemingly healthy subjects. A seroepidemiologic study on American trypanosomiasis was performed to a group of Nicaraguan students in Isle of the Youth Special Municipality, during February 1987, using indirect hemagglutination and indirect immunoflorescence techniques. The prevalence obtained with both tests and the percentage of the most frequent titer of indirect immunofluorescence are pointed out. The youth living in rural zones presented higher risk of acquiring the infection than those living in urban zones. The activity in burrows at four different sites was calculated, and it went from 80 to 98% during pretreatment. For the first time in our country, average values of days/deaths of synanthropic rodents in natural conditions were obtained, and the reached values were between 16.50 and 19.06 after applying the biorodenticide.
