Metastases of prostate cancer to the penis and urethra are rare and often represent advanced disease. We describe a case of newly diagnosed prostatic adenocarcinoma with metastases to the corpus spongiosum, cavernosum, and the anterior urethra. A male patient, 77 years of age, initially had lower urinary tract obstruction symptoms. His prostate-specific antigen level was 5.02 ng/mL. Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a common cause of morbidity among older men. Primary care physicians need to develop expertise in its management. The causes of BPH are unknown; aging and the presence of male androgens are the dominant risk factors. Obtaining a medical history is a key step in assessing whether lower urinary tract symptoms are due to BPH or to some other process. PURPOSE: To compare sonoelasticity imaging versus ultrasound (US) in detection of prostate cancer.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Sonoelasticity imaging and US were performed on 10 prostatectomy specimens in which cancer was detected at previous biopsy.
