[Ebstein's anomaly with pulmonary hypoplasia. Diagnosis with Doppler color echocardiography in the fetus].

A case of Ebstein's anomaly with pulmonary hypoplasia diagnosed in utero by color Doppler echocardiography in a 26 weeks fetus is presented. We emphasize the importance of ultrasound in the early detection of this congenital abnormality that allowed our medical team to offer correct assistance to a severe ill child at birth.

[A successful case of tricuspid valvulectomy for Ebstein's anomaly with severe tricuspid stenosis].

A 44-year-old male was admitted to our hospital complaining of general fatigue and dyspnea on exertion with congestive heart failure (NYHA IV). Cardiac catheterization and angiogram revealed Ebstein's anomaly with severe tricuspid stenosis and functioning small right ventricle. Because of tiny right ventricular chamber, the usual surgical treatment for Ebstein's anomaly i.e. tricuspid valve replacement or valvuloplasty were deemed to be inappropriate. Tricuspid valvulectomy was performed to relieve the inflow stenosis of the right ventricle and excellent symptomatic relief was achieved. It is

[Disorders of atrioventricular conduction in Ebstein's anomaly in an adult. A report of 5 cases].

From the literature we find that the most frequent electrical alterations in Ebstein's anomaly are: the abnormal right atriogram; ventricular pre-excitation; supraventricular tachycardia; right bundle branch block and lengthening of the PR tract. These alterations are also present in cases of Ebstein's anomaly diagnosed in adults. The study of the activation of the right ventricle, which offers a variety of forms of development, is a source of particular interest. We report five cases which have come to our attention, in which greater disturbances of the atrioventricular block were present. Th

[Pulmonary atresia with an intact interventricular septum and Ebstein's anomaly of the tricuspid valve].

Patients with pulmonary atresia and intact ventricular septum have a poor prognosis with or without conventional surgical treatment. The best results of surgical treatment are obtained in those cases with a mild underdeveloped right ventricle and minor sinusoidal communication in the absence of important dysfunction of the tricuspid valve. We present five cases of pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum associated with dysfunction of the tricuspid valve. On the basis of radiographic, electrocardiographic and hemodynamic findings, this group of patients could not be distinguished from

Left ventricular geometry and function in adults with Ebstein's anomaly of the tricuspid valve.

We postulated that the abnormal shape, size, and function of the right heart and adjoining ventricular septum in adults with Ebstein's anomaly of the tricuspid valve might in turn alter the shape and function of the left ventricle. Seven adult patients with uncomplicated Ebstein's anomaly were studied. Left ventricular geometry was determined by two-dimensional echocardiography. Left ventricular function was assessed by treadmill exercise and radionuclide angiography at rest and with exercise. Paradoxic ventricular septal motion was consistently present. Left ventricular eccentricity (ratio of

Two-dimensional echocardiographic spectrum of Ebstein's anomaly: detailed anatomic assessment.

This report details the two-dimensional echocardiographic assessment of 41 patients with Ebstein's anomaly. The anatomic spectrum of Ebstein's anomaly is correlated with surgical and autopsy observations in 66% of these patients. Morphologic abnormalities of the tricuspid valve and right heart structures were uniquely assessed by noninvasive two-dimensional echocardiographic examination. Features of the tricuspid valve that best related to decreased functional capacity were: 1) absence of the septal leaflet, and 2) pronounced tethering, restriction of motion and displacement of the anterior le

Maternal lithium and neonatal Ebstein's anomaly: evaluation with cross-sectional echocardiography.

Cross-sectional echocardiography was used to evaluate two neonates whose mothers ingested lithium during pregnancy. In one infant, Ebstein's anomaly of the tricuspid valve was identified. In the other infant cross-sectional echocardiography provided reassurance that the infant did not have Ebstein's anomaly. Cross-sectional echocardiographic screening of newborns exposed to lithium during gestation can provide highly accurate, noninvasive assessment of the presence or absence of lithium-induced cardiac malformations.

Ebstein's anomaly of the left-sided atrioventricular (AV) valve in AV discordance.

Prosthetic valve replacement of the left-sided atrioventricular (AV) valve was performed in a patient with AV discordance and Ebstein's anomaly of the left-sided AV valve without other associated anomalies. An anatomical study of 22 specimens with AV discordance did not show a case with similar anatomy; 5 hearts had mild degrees of downward displacement of the attachment of the left-sided AV valve leaflets, with marked dysplastic changes and variable degrees of hypoplasia. The surgical implications are different according to the degree of downward displacement of the leaflets. This feature and

Automated identification of cardiac conduction tissue in L-TGV and Ebstein's anomaly.

The specialized cardiac conduction tissue was identified quickly and easily at operation in 2 patients with corrected transposition (L-TGV) and 1 with Ebstein's anomaly. In each of the former cases the tissue was located along the upper rim of the VSD, beneath the pulmonary outflow tract; in neither patient was there a disturbance in cardiac rhythm as a result of operation. In the patient with Ebstein's anomaly the bundle of His descended onto the ventricular septum more directly than was anticipated. There was only a transitory disturbance in atrioventricular conduction following tricuspid va

Prolapse of the mitral valve is described in two patients with the Ebstein's anomaly of the tricuspid.

Prolapse of the mitral valve is described in two patients with the Ebstein's anomaly of the tricuspid valve. This association has not been described previously. It is probable, however, that this association is not a rare one, but that clinical features of the prolapsing mitral valve are obscured by those resulting from the malformed tricuspid valve. Opportunity also was provided to study anatomically the mitral valve of a patient known to have a systolic click and a late systolic murmur (the Barlow syndrome). Although there have been several anatomic descriptions of floppy mitral valve at nec
