Gender differences in vocational rehabilitation service predictors of successful competitive employment for transition-aged individuals with autism.

As males and females with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) experience different symptomology, their needs for vocational rehabilitation (VR) are unique as they transition into adulthood. This study examined the effects of gender differences in VR service predictors on employment outcomes for transition-aged individuals with ASD. A total of 1696 individuals (857 males and 839 females) were analyzed from a sample of RSA-911 data of FY 2011. Hierarchical logistic regression analyses were conducted. Results revealed both gender-independent VR service predictors (with job placement and on-the-job sup…

AI-enabled integrated employment ecosystem for socially vulnerable groups: a multiple case study and design-research approach.

Population aging and digital transformation are intersecting forces that intensify the structural exclusion of older adults and persons with disabilities from contemporary labor markets. Welfare systems and scholarly literature alike remain fragmented along single-group axes, leaving this compounded inequality without an integrative response. Drawing on a multiple case study of Testworks, Kakao, and Microsoft, combined with a design-research approach, this study identifies three mechanisms through which artificial intelligence enables inclusive employment: strength matching, education-to-emplo…

Prevalence and Correlates of Pre-Employment Drug Screens and Job Denial among Veterans with Co-Occurring Conditions.

BACKGROUND: Unemployment is associated with a range of negative consequences and is common among individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. Pre-employment drug screens are a potential barrier to attaining employment among individuals who use substances, but little is known about the prevalence and correlates of encountering a pre-employment drug screen and subsequent job denial due to positive drug screen results. METHODS: Altogether, 500 veterans with a comorbid mental health and substance use disorder completed surveys via a national Qualtrics panel. We examine…

Probing Perceptual Decision Making in Cervical Dystonia: Employment of a Novel Paradigm Integrating Behavioural and Neuronal Measures.

Cervical dystonia (CD) is a rare neurological motor disorder characterised by involuntary head and neck movements, resulting in abnormal posturing. Although CD presents clinically as a motor disorder, recent evidence suggests it is a network disorder with abnormalities in sensory and motor processing. The pathophysiology of CD remains unclear; however, it has been suggested that impairment within the superior collicular-pulvinar-amygdala network is involved. Superior Colliculus (SC) involvement may imply abnormalities in perceptual decision making (PDM). This study assessed PDM in CD and healt

Association of Military Employment With Late-Life Cognitive Decline and Dementia: A Population-Based Prospective Cohort Study.

INTRODUCTION: As the number of U.S. veterans over age 65 has increased, interest in whether military service affects late-life health outcomes has grown. Whether military employment is associated with increased risk of cognitive decline and dementia remains unclear. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We used data from 4,370 participants of the longitudinal Adult Changes in Thought (ACT) cohort study, enrolled at age 65 or older, to examine whether military employment was associated with greater cognitive decline or higher risk of incident dementia in late life. We classified persons as having military em…

Employment of cytology for in vitro skin irritation test using a reconstructed human epidermis model, Keraskin™.

Skin irritation tests using reconstructed human epidermis (RhE) employ viability as an endpoint, but color interference or borderline results are often problematic. We examined whether the cytology of cells from treated RhE could determine skin irritancy. Six chemicals (three irritants; DnP, 1-B, PH, three non-irritants; DP, APA, HS) were evaluated in a RhE, Keraskin™. DP, HS, and PH were clearly classified with viability, but DnP, 1-B, and APA were often falsely determined, due to borderline values falling near the cutoff, 50%. In histology, the tissues treated with DnP, 1-B, and PH showed er
