Erythema multiforme (EM) is a rare immune-mediated reaction with mucocutaneous involvement. This case report describes the development of EM in a 9-year-old girl after treatment with imiquimod, a topical immunomodulator used in the management of some dermatologic conditions. Because imiquimod-related EM is rare, particularly in children, this article also reviews the potential adverse effects of this drug and the main characteristics of imiquimod-induced EM, especially in similar cases reported in the literature. Clinicians should be aware that topical imiquimod can induce EM, and this medicat…

Background: Limited data exists on the use of rivaroxaban for the treatment of pediatric patients. This report presents a case of probable rivaroxaban-induced Erythema Multiforme in Children. Case Summary: A female patient aged 5.5 years with antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) was administered oral rivaroxaban tablets 2.5 mg twice a day for 16 days. Subsequently, the patient developed a slight itching sensation on both feet and buttocks without an apparent cause. Erythema multiforme is a widespread hypersensitivity reaction, its pathogenesis is related to a variety of factors, including drugs and viral and bacterial infections. It is true that erythema multiforme is often caused by viruses while current studies suggest that it is mostly associated with herpes simplex virus infection, rarely associated with varicella-zoster virus infection. Here, we report a 50-year-old man admitted to our hospital because of rashes on the left rib with pain for 9 days and on limbs and hands for 2 days. Laboratory data showed that varicella-zoster virus (VZV-DNA) test w…

INTRODUCTION: and importance: The COVID-19 is a global pandemic that is now responsible for more than 3 million deaths around the world. Its cutaneous manifestations in patients are being increasingly reported. This case brings additional data implementing the knowledge on the dermatological signs during COVID-19.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report a new pattern with erythema multiforme (EM) lesions in a healthy patient with COVID-19 infection and no other medical background.

We report a case of membranous conjunctivitis and erythema multiforme major (EMM) after a coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) diagnosis. A previously well 18-year-old man presented with increasingly erythematous eyes and oral and genital ulceration 2 weeks after confirmation of COVID-19 infection. Clinical examination showed sloughy membranous conjunctivitis with normal visual acuity. He was reviewed by dermatology and diagnosed with EMM secondary to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection. The symptoms resolved with oral and topical steroids, lubricants and chloramphenicol e…

BACKGROUND: Nonbullous erythema multiforme (NBEM) is an acute, immune-mediated, self-limiting skin disease with distinctive target lesions. Its pathogenesis is unclear, but most cases are considered to be infection related or drug related. In adults, the main precipitating factor is infection. This study reviewed a 10-year experience with hospitalized children with NBEM in a tertiary pediatric medical center in Israel with a focus on precipitating factors.
METHODS: The medical files of all children hospitalized from 2001 to 2011 with the diagnosis of NBEM were reviewed.
RESULTS: Ninety-seven…

Secondary syphilis, the hematogenous spread of Treponema pallidum, usually occurs 4-10 weeks after initial exposure. The skin is involved in 70% of cases, with maculopapular, vesiculobullous, and ulcerative morphologies possible at presentation, making the diagnosis of secondary syphilis challenging given its ability to mimic many other conditions. We present an atypical case of secondary syphilis that closely resembled erythema multiforme (EM) clinically and histologically.

OBJECTIVE: Sorafenib is one of the few standard agents for metastatic renal cell carcinoma. Although sorafenib-induced erythema multiforme is rarely reported, we evaluated the cases of erythema multiforme induced by sorafenib for metastatic renal cell carcinoma.
METHODS: From November 2006 to November 2011, 36 eligible patients who had been treated with sorafenib were enrolled in this study. Patients received sorafenib 200 or 400 mg orally, twice daily, at 12 h intervals, on a continuous dosing schedule. All patients who experienced rash or erythema multiforme underwent a skin biopsy, and the…
