Neuro-Muscular Dentistry: the "diamond" concept of electro-stimulation potential for stomato-gnathic and oro-dental conditions.

Oro-Pharyngeal Dysphagia - or simply dysphagia - is the difficulty (persistent) in swallowing/passing food and/or liquid from the mouth to the pharynx into the esophagus and finally the stomach; a deglutition disorder (a symptom, by definition, often due to neuro-degenerative/-muscular, drug-induced or localized structural pathologies such as head and neck tumors, lesions and associated surgical and/or radiation injuries) linked to severe consequences on Quality of Life (QoL), including malnutrition, dehydration, and even sudden death. Likewise, Temporo-Mandibular Jaw and Joint disorder(s) - o

Are sugar-free confections really beneficial for dental health?

BACKGROUND: Various sugar substitutes have been introduced and are widely used in confections and beverages to avoid tooth decay from sugar and other fermentable carbohydrates. One group of sugar substitutes are sugar alcohols or polyols. They have been specifically used in foods for diabetic patients because polyols are not readily absorbed in the intestine and blood stream, preventing post-prandial elevation of glucose level. Additionally they may lower caloric intake. METHODS: We searched PubMed, Cochrane Controlled Trials Registry, Cochrane Oral Health Review, Centre for Reviews and Disse

Genotoxicity and oral tissue damage associated with tooth bleaching agents: A scoping review.

Tooth bleaching is one of the most frequently performed esthetic procedures in dentistry. Although peroxide-based bleaching agents effectively promote color change, their decomposition generates reactive oxygen species that may induce oxidative stress, cytotoxicity, genotoxicity, inflammation, and oral tissue alterations. This scoping review mapped and synthesized the available evidence regarding genotoxicity and oral tissue damage associated with tooth bleaching procedures, identified the biological models and analytical methods used to investigate these outcomes, and explored differences amo

Guidelines for Orthodontic Management of Individuals With Mental Illness Using Psychiatric Medication: A Systematic Review.

The majority of mentally challenged individuals anticipate treatment with inflated levels of concern more than conventional orthodontic patients. However, there are no systematic reviews on behavioral modification techniques and orthodontic therapy for people with mental illness. Therefore, the goal of the review was to highlight the orthodontic concerns for people with mental disabilities with the intent to address the problems that emerge when providing orthodontic care. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines and population, exposure, and o

Automated Prognostic Evaluation of First Permanent Molar Extractions Using YOLOv8 with Oriented Bounding Boxes on Pediatric Panoramic Radiographs.

Background/Objectives: The first permanent molar (M1) is critical for occlusal development but is highly susceptible to caries and molar-incisor hypomineralization (MIH). When M1 prognosis is poor, extraction may be necessary, requiring accurate evaluation for post-extraction space management. This study aims to develop and validate an automated deep learning framework using YOLOv8n with oriented bounding boxes (OBB) to predict the likelihood of spontaneous space closure following M1 extractions, thereby reducing diagnostic subjectivity and inter-observer variability. Methods: A dataset of 200

Management of dental-origin gastrointestinal foreign bodies: a proposed site-based, risk-stratified framework for multidisciplinary care.

OBJECTIVES: To propose a risk-stratified, site-specific framework tailored to the biomechanical hazards of dental-origin gastrointestinal foreign bodies (DGIFBs). MATERIALS AND METHODS: We conducted a narrative review with expert consensus-based synthesis, evaluating leading gastroenterological and surgical consensus statements on aerodigestive and gastrointestinal emergencies. Dedicated guidelines for DGIFBs are currently scarce. Consequently, we systematically extrapolated management principles for sharp, complex objects and integrated them with clinical data on dental device complications.

Tactile Perception of 3D-Printed Typodont Materials in Dental Education: A Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND: Adoption of additive manufacture of printed typodonts within dentistry for education occurs despite inadequate reproduction of desirable tactile characteristics of human tooth tissues. Variable findings regarding material properties and educational outcomes of 3D-printed typodonts are reported. A systematic review is therefore warranted to synthesise the evidence and understand how materials used in 3D-printed typodonts impact tactile perception and dental educational value to ultimately inform evidence-based adoption in dental education. METHODS: This systematic review aimed to i

Antibiotic Prescribing Patterns for Pulpitis in Pediatric Dentistry: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Background: Pulpitis is a common cause of dental pain in children and is primarily an inflammatory condition that can be effectively managed with local operative treatment. Although antibiotics are indicated only in cases of systemic involvement or infection spread, they are frequently overprescribed in dental practice. This misuse contributes to antimicrobial resistance and adverse health outcomes. This systematic review aimed to evaluate antibiotic prescribing practices for pulpitis in pediatric patients and to assess adherence to current clinical guidelines. Methods: A systematic review was
