A Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice Study on Trauma-Informed Care Among Nurses Working in a Hospital in Lucknow District.

Background Trauma-informed care (TIC) is a framework that acknowledges the widespread impact of trauma and integrates knowledge about its effects into healthcare practices. As frontline caregivers, nurses frequently encounter patients with trauma histories. Their knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) regarding TIC are crucial in ensuring compassionate, effective, and patient-centered care. However, there is limited research assessing the understanding and implementation of TIC among nurses in Indian healthcare settings, particularly in Lucknow District. Materials and methods A cross-sectiona

The management and prevention of incontinence dermatitis.

Incontinence dermatitis (ID) is rising in incidence along with the increasing elderly population. Its management must therefore take on a greater level of importance. The focus of care must be on finding the causes of incontinence; in many cases it can be cured or the symptoms greatly improved and the development of ID prevented. Where it does occur, effective intervention is necessary. However, a survey into the knowledge base of nurses in caring for skin, carried out by the Royal College of Nursing Continence Care Forum in 1995, showed that care was based on customs and practice rather than

Evidence-based guidelines in labor management.

Evidence-based care of women in labor requires a thorough understanding of both "normal" and abnormal labor progress. In response to the growing cesarean delivery rate for dystocia at our institution, a multidisciplinary team of attending physicians, nurse-midwives, resident physicians, and nurses was established to review the literature and create evidence-based guidelines. This article describes the background literature and consensus guidelines reached for the diagnosis of active phase labor, active phase arrest, second-stage arrest, protraction of the active phase, and failed induction of

Introducing the Strategic Scripting, Repetitive Practice, Reflection, and Debriefing Model: Evolution of Cognitive Rehearsal to Address Incivility.

BACKGROUND: Incivility in nursing remains a pervasive and complex issue that undermines nurse well-being, team functioning, and patient safety. For two decades, cognitive rehearsal (CR) has served as a foundational evidence-based strategy to help nurses mitigate uncivil behaviors. METHOD: Traditional CR relies on linear, scripted responses and may not fully prepare nurses for the dynamic, unpredictable, and high-stakes nuances of real-world academic and health care work environments. The author reconceptualizes CR as a rigorous, experiential process and introduces scenario-based simulation wi

Communication-focused interventions to reduce missed nursing care: A systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Missed nursing care (MNC) is associated with adverse patient outcomes, and communication problems may contribute to care omissions. Evidence on interventions that explicitly target communication to reduce MNC remains unclear. PURPOSE: To synthesize interventional evidence on communication-focused strategies intended to reduce MNC or specific nursing care omissions. METHODS: We conducted a PRISMA-guided systematic review of six databases and gray-literature sources. Randomized, quasi-experimental, and pre-experimental studies involving nursing staff in health institutions were eli

Long-term survival in high-risk older adults following emergency general surgery admission.

BACKGROUND: Emergency general surgery (EGS) conditions are increasingly common among nursing home residents. While such patients have a high risk of in-hospital mortality, long-term outcomes in this group are not well described, which may have implications for goals of care discussions. In this study, we evaluate long-term survival among nursing home residents admitted for EGS conditions. METHODS: We performed a population-based, retrospective cohort study of nursing home residents (65 years or older) admitted for one of eight EGS diagnoses (appendicitis, cholecystitis, strangulated hernia, b

Reducing penicillin allergy mislabelling: A one-day structured training program improves nurses' knowledge and self-reported confidence in allergy assessment and skin testing.

BACKGROUND: Penicillins are the most commonly prescribed antibiotics; however, penicillin allergy (PA) labels are highly prevalent and often inaccurate, leading to suboptimal antibiotic selection use. In Mainland China, PA mislabeling is exacerbated by inappropriate penicillin skin testing (PST) practices. Nurses play a crucial role in assessing and labeling suspected PA, but the lack of systematic, evidence-based training limits their ability to address mislabeling effectively. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the impact of a structured one-day PA training course targeting nurses on their knowledge an
