Comparative Evaluation of the Cariostatic and Antibacterial Efficacy of Nano Silver Fluoride With Silver Diamine Fluoride in Children With Special Health Care Needs: A Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial.

Introduction Dental caries remains a significant public health concern, particularly among children with special health care needs, who are at increased risk due to challenges in oral hygiene maintenance and limited access to dental care. Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is widely used to arrest caries but is associated with undesirable black staining. Nano silver fluoride (NSF) has been introduced as a potential alternative, offering effective caries management without aesthetic drawbacks. Hence, this randomized controlled clinical trial aimed to evaluate and compare the cariostatic and antibact

Modulation of gamma-aminobutyric acid release in cerebral cortex by fluoride, phorbol ester, and phosphodiesterase inhibitors: differential sensitivity of acetylcholine release to fluoride and K+ channel blockers.

In this study we have used fluoride as a tool to investigate the involvement of G protein-coupled effector systems in the regulation of the depolarization-induced release of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) from rat cerebral cortex. To distinguish among the activating effects of NaF on G proteins linked to different effectors, such as adenylate cyclase, polyphosphoinositide phospholipase C, and K+ channels, agents specific to these effectors have been used in parallel. NaF induced a marked dose-dependent facilitation of the K(+)-evoked release of [14C]GABA, with an EC50 of 1.26 mM, increasing re

Physicochemical properties, biological chemistry and mechanisms of action of caries-arresting diammine-silver(I) fluoride and silver(I)-fluoride solutions for clinical use: a critical review.

This paper serves as a Part II follow-up of our research investigations performed on the molecular structures of silver(I)-fluoride (SF) and diammine-silver(I) fluoride (SDF) complexes in solution-based commercial products for clinical application, their precise chemical compositions, and their nature in aqueous solution, the latter including rapid fluoride-exchange processes at the silver(I) ion centre monitored by 19F NMR analysis (Part I). Part I of this series also explores the mechanisms of action (MoA) of these complexes, and is therefore largely focused on their chemical reactions with

Fluoride-resistant Streptococcus mutans within cross-kingdom biofilms support Candida albicans growth under fluoride and attenuate the in vitro anti-caries effect of fluorine.

Fluoride-resistant Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) might affect the ecological balance of biofilms in the presence of fluoride. We used a S. mutans and Candida albicans (C. albicans) cross-kingdom biofilm model to investigate whether fluoride-resistant S. mutans in biofilms would support C. albicans growth under fluoride stress and attenuate the in vitro anti-caries effect of fluorine. The impact of fluoride-resistant S. mutans on formation of cross-kingdom biofilms by S. mutans and C. albicans in the presence of fluoride was investigated in vitro using the crystal violet staining assay. Bis(triphenyl-λ5-phosphanylidene)ammonium fluoride: a reactive fluoride source to access the hypervalent silicates [Me(n)SiF(5-n)]- (n = 0-3).

A new synthesis of bis(triphenyl-λ(5)-phosphanylidene)ammonium fluoride ((Ph3PNPPh3)F, abbreviated as (PNP)F), is described. The title compound has been fully characterized by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy, vibrational spectroscopy, elemental analysis and single crystal and powder X-ray diffraction for the first time. In the solid state (PNP)F exists as a covalent molecular compound, in which the fluoride ion is asymmetrically bonded to the two phosphorus atoms of the [PNP](+) cation. The phosphorus-fluorine bond with 181.98(13) pm is surprisingly long and the longest P-F bond in any phosphora

Effect of DPSS Nd: YAG (532 nm) and diode (980 nm) laser treatment on fluoride uptake in dentin following silver diamine fluoride application: An in vitro study.

Fluoride treatment has long been recognized as an important method for treating dental decay. Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) treatment has emerged as a low-cost and simple approach, combining silver’s antimicrobial properties with fluoride’s caries-inhibiting activities. The present study compares the effects of two lasers, diode-pumped solid-state frequency-doubled Nd: YAG (DPSS, 532 nm) and diode (980 nm), on fluoride absorption in dentin when used with SDF. Following treatment with 38% SDF, the prepared dentin specimens were exposed to radiation for 3, 5, and 10 s using either a frequency-do

Erosion Potential of Commercial Fluoride-Free Mouthwashes on Dental Hard Tissues.

PURPOSE: Mouthwashes often present acidic pH, which raises concerns about their potential contribution to erosive tooth wear. This study evaluated the erosive potential of commercial fluoride-free mouthwashes using a screening method. METHODS: A convenience sample of 81 different mouthwashes was evaluated for their erosion potential (International Organization for Standardization, ISO/FDIS 28888:2013). This method measured the pH changes (ΔpH) of 25 mL of calcium phosphate solution (baseline pH 5.05 ± 0.05; mean ± standard deviation) once the test mouthwash was added (0.25 mL). Three citric a

Association of Maternal Bone Resorption with Urinary Fluoride Levels During Pregnancy.

Evidence is accumulating linking prenatal fluoride exposure with adverse neurodevelopment. Maternal urinary fluoride (MUF) is a well-established biomarker of fluoride exposure. Because most fluoride is stored in calcified tissues, pregnancy-associated changes in bone metabolism may contribute to fetal fluoride exposure. We evaluated whether maternal bone resorption, indexed by urinary N-telopeptide of type I collagen (NTX), is associated with MUF across pregnancy. Participants were drawn from the Early Life Exposures in Mexico to Environmental Toxicants (ELEMENT) birth cohorts. Each woman cont

The Effect of CaCl2 and Basicity of PAC on Fluoride Removal by PAC-PDMDAAC Coagulation.

Fluoride contamination in water sources poses significant risks to human health and ecosystems, necessitating effective treatment strategies. This study investigates the influence of calcium chloride (CaCl2) and the basicity of polyaluminum chloride (PAC) on fluoride removal using PAC-PDMDAAC coagulation. Through systematic jar tests, the effects of varying PAC basicity (0.5, 1.0, and 2.0) and CaCl2 addition sequences were examined under different fluoride concentrations (1.0, 3.0, and 10.0 mg/L). Results indicate that PAC with lower basicity (B = 0.5) exhibits superior fluoride removal effici

Modulating silver diamine fluoride chemical derivatives by solid-binding peptides.

Peptide modulators offer a means to transition from passive dental treatment to actively designing the biological interface with specific responses for efficacy and minimal off-target effects. The oral cavity is exposed to one of the most hostile and dynamic environments in the human body. Targeted delivery of peptide modulators may direct the desired biological outcomes at the interface of dental bioceramic tissues. While noninvasive silver diamine fluoride (SDF) has revolutionized cavity management in early childhood caries, its universal use is limited by its drawbacks including permanent b
