Gastrostomy tube transmigration: a rare cause of small bowel obstruction.

A 77-year-old woman with an indwelling gastrostomy tube presented with a clinical picture of pneumonia and small bowel obstruction. During gastrostomy closure and performance of a feeding jejunostomy, inadvertent transmigration of the gastrostomy tube was found to be the etiology of the small intestinal obstruction. This case illustrates a rare complication of enteric feeding tubes.

[Complications of catheterization of the subclavian vein and their prevention].

The frequency of complications related with catheterization of the subclavian vein was 16.2%. The most hazardous complications were as follows: the pulmonary artery embolism, migration of a catheter in the venous bed and thrombosis of the catheterized vein. The proper selection of indications, careful observation of the rules of puncturing and catheterization may reduce the incidence of complications to a minimum.

Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter Malposition Into the Azygos Vein in a Neonate: A Case Report and Literature Review.

A peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) is widely used for a variety of infusion therapies. Misposition, including primary and secondary, is one of the complications of PICC catheterisation. This case reports a neonate who encountered a PICC primary migration into the azygos vein (AV), which is very rare. In addition, we discuss related solutions after identifying this migration. AV migration for the patient can be detrimental, with an increased risk of perforation, thrombus and fistula formation. Therefore, we suggest that the case of malposition in the AV should be identified early a

A pediatric case of upward migration of distal shunt catheter followed by outward migration of ventricular catheter.

INTRODUCTION: Catheter migration and coiling are rare complications of ventriculoperitoneal shunt (VPS). CASE REPORT: A 4-month-old girl presented with poor feeding and vomiting. At presentation, the patient showed sunset phenomenon and tense fontanelles. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed tetraventricular dilation. RESULTS: The patient underwent right VPS and was discharged on postoperative day (POD) 8. She visited hospital 33 days later, with considerable swelling in the right frontoparietal region. Radiography revealed upward VPS catheter migration and coiling. The patient underwent shun

Intertwining Coil and Catheter During Brain Arterial-Venous Malformation Embolization: A Case Report of a Rare Complication.

Cerebral arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are rare vascular anomalies associated with a risk of devastating intracerebral hemorrhage. They are often diagnosed following the appearance of seizures, focal neurological signs, or bleeding. In such cases endovascular embolization, which aims to occlude the AVM nidus and reduce risk of hemorrhage, has become a crucial therapeutic approach. Herein, we describe the case of a 62-year-old patient with a history of bleeding caused by cerebral AVM. During urgent endovascular embolization of the patient's AVM, a combination of large-caliber platinum coil

Silicone Oil Into the Suprachoroidal Space: An Illustrative Report and Literature Review.

Silicone oil (SO) tamponade has been widely used in vitreoretinal surgery for complex retinal detachment cases, yet its migration into unintended intraocular spaces remains an uncommon but clinically significant complication. While sub-retinal and anterior chamber migration have been more frequently described, suprachoroidal SO migration is a rare event, with few reports in the literature. The underlying mechanisms proposed for this complication include transient hypotony, infusion cannula malposition, and structural vulnerabilities within the suprachoroidal space. This review synthesizes repo

Migration of atrial catheter of ventriculo-cysto-atrial shunt into heart and pulmonary artery - case report and literature review.

Ventriculoatrial shunts are the alternative treatments when it is impossible to use ventriculoperitoneal shunts. Limited indication for ventriculoatrial shunt is due to the possibility of very serious complications inherent with this procedure. We present a case report of a young patient who suffered from disconnection of an atrial catheter from the valve after an accidental blow to his neck. The atrial catheter was dislocated to the heart and pulmonary artery and it was extracted through the femoral vein in the groin area using an endovascular technique. The procedure went without complicatio

Implausible, not impossible: delayed supradiaphragmatic thoracic migration of a ventriculoperitoneal shunt in a 17-month-old.

BACKGROUND: Intrathoracic migration of a ventriculoperitoneal shunt (VPS) is a phenomenally rare complication, with the supradiaphragmatic intercostal variant even more so. Whereas it can prove debilitating or even fatal via massive hydrothorax, the causative mechanism and proper management of this occurrence are undefined. CASE PRESENTATION: A 17-month-old girl who had undergone VPS insertion at one month of age was brought to our department for somnolence and dyspnea, which had a sudden onset. Despite a previous thoracostomy provided temporary symptom relief, she had relapsed. Computed tomo

Oesophageal perforation by migrated Ryles tube.

A 72-year woman with a history of multiple cerebrovascular accidents presented with severe epigastric pain. An oesophageal perforation by the tip of a Ryles tube, which had migrated into the mediastinum, was diagnosed by radiography. An attempt at pushing the nasogastric tube into the stomach resulted in increasing the rupture to about 6 cm in size. Replacement by a triple-lumen nasojejunal feeding tube and subsequent feeding with c.1,400 calories per day enabled the perforation to close without further intervention.

Ultrasonographic findings may be useful for differentiating interdigital abscesses secondary to migrating grass awns and interdigital furunculosis in dogs.

Grass awn migration and furunculosis are common diseases in dogs that can lead to interdigital subcutaneous lesions with a similar clinical presentation, and occasionally similar ultrasonographic images, but different treatments are required. This retrospective, multicentric, analytical study aimed to determine whether epidemiological, clinical, and ultrasonographic features could be used to differentiate interdigital furunculosis and abscesses secondary to migrating grass awns. Fifty-nine dogs that underwent interdigital ultrasonography were included (interdigital furunculosis [IDF], n = 27;

Simultaneous retrograde venous and anterograde arterial bullet embolism: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Bullet embolus is a rare condition following gunshot injuries and represents a clinical challenge regarding both diagnosis and management. CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 35-year-old Iranian (Middle-Eastern) male patient with a shotgun injury to both buttocks, which traveled to the heart and the popliteal area through the femoral vein and superficial femoral artery, respectively. Surgical intervention was applied for the popliteal pellet, and the patient was discharged without further complications. CONCLUSION: Although bullet emboli can be a clinical challenge, with t

Esophageal stent migration leading to distal small bowel perforation.

Covered oesophageal stents are often used to treat dysphagia in patients with inoperable oesophageal cancer. Stent migration is a well-known but usually benign complication. We report the case of a patient whose esophageal stent migrated into the distal ileum with perforation hereof. A laparoscopic stent extraction and intestinal repair was necessary to treat the perforation.

An Unusual Case of a Filshie Clip Presenting as a Bladder Wall Abscess 12 Years After Sterilization.

BACKGROUND There is growing evidence suggesting that Filshie clip migration is a rare but significant late complication following tubal sterilization. Although most women are asymptomatic, clip migration can result in serious morbidity such as abscess formation and be a source of sepsis years later. CASE REPORT A 51-year-old woman presented with 2-week history of worsening right flank pain with fever and chills, unresponsive to oral antibiotics. CT imaging showed a 4-cm anterior bladder wall mass with a tubal ligation clip within, initially suspicious for a tumor, with secondary infection. Cys

Copper alloys' metal migration and bioaccessibility in saliva and gastric fluid.

The oral bioaccessibility of copper alloys and pure metals was assessed using in vitro methods with synthetic saliva and gastric fluid. The metal-specific migration rates from polished alloy surfaces are higher in gastric (pH 1.5) than in saliva fluid (pH 7.2). In both media, migrations are higher for lead than for other metals. The bioaccessible metal concentrations in massive copper alloys, after 2 h in gastric fluid, was only <0.01%-0.18%, consistent with the low surface reactivity of copper alloys (defined as 1 mm spheres). The average metal-specific migrations of cobalt, copper, nickel an

Shunt Catheter Migration Due to Negative Thoracic Pressure.

Permanent cerebrospinal fluid diversion has a lengthy list of complications. We present an unusual clinical image of shunt catheter migration. A 54-year-old female had a history of subarachnoid hemorrhage that resulted in communicating hydrocephalus, which needed a ventriculoperitoneal shunt placement. On outpatient follow-up, she was found to have a sunken skin flap that was resistant to raising the shunt valve setting. A radiograph of the shunt system revealed that the peritoneal catheter had migrated into the thoracic cavity. On review of the patient's previous imaging, an area indicative o

Percutaneous management of periprocedural coronary sinus Reducer migration.

Coronary sinus Reducer represents a novel therapeutic option for refractory angina. As emerging evidence of both reduction in angina symptoms and reduction of myocardial ischemia burden might lead to increased Reducer implantations, knowledge on how to manage potential complications is of clinical importance. We report a successful management of scaffold migration in right atrium.
