Intrastromal ring (ISR) implantation is a promising concept in refractive corneal surgery. In theory, it has two main advantages: eccentric corneal surgery and reversibility after ISR explanation. CASE: A 45-year-old woman with severe back pain underwent percutaneous curettage and balloon kyphoplasty (BKP) of a lesion believed to be aneurysmal bone cyst. Three months after BKP, local recurrence was observed, and the histological diagnosis was revised to malignant tumor. Thus, we performed a total en bloc spondylectomy, and the L3 vertebral body was resected. She was reconstructed by titanium expandable cage, rod, and pedicle screws. We observed viable tumor cells and foreign body reaction adjacent to the polymethylmethacrylate cement, carrying no bone necrosis.

This study evaluated different dosage forms of aluminum adjuvant in generating allergic rhinitis animal models. Forty female BALB/c mice were assigned to four groups, including three dosage forms of aluminum adjuvant [powder, gel, and hydrosolvent of aluminum hydroxide, Al(OH)3] mixed with ovalbumin to simulate the symptoms of allergic rhinitis and one control group. We conducted an epidemiologic investigation of an outbreak of ocular disease among children to determine whether the disease was linked to Emmonsia sp., a rarely-reported fungus and an agent of adiaspiromycosis. Using an unmatched case-control study design, we compared case-patients with asymptomatic controls randomly selected from the population. Scleral biopsies were analyzed microscopically.
