Acute ulnar nerve entrapment after closed reduction of a posterior fracture dislocation of the elbow: a case report.

We present the case of a child who had a posterior-lateral elbow dislocation with an intact ulnar nerve documented before an attempted reduction, with subsequent loss of ulnar nerve function after the elbow was reduced.Dislocations of the elbow in children represent only 3% to 6% of all elbow injuries. Posterior elbow dislocations are the most common, with more than one half involving an associated fracture about the elbow. The most common associated fracture is the medial epicondyle. Even though it is known that injury to the ulnar nerve can occur in elbow dislocations, we found only 1 other

A new approach to the treatment of nasal bone fracture: the clinical usefulness of closed reduction using a C-arm.

Closed reduction is commonly conducted for the treatment of a nasal bone fracture unless a concurrent fracture or a severe nasal septum fracture is observed. As the reduction, however, is not conducted through the direct gross observation of the fracture site, it is difficult to obtain a good result from it. Accordingly, a supplementary process is required. Closed reduction with a C-arm was conducted within the period from March 2009 to January 2010 on 50 patients with nasal bone fractures, to treat these fractures or to evaluate the postoperative conditions of such. The usefulness of the C-ar

Chopart joint fracture-dislocation: initial open reduction provides better outcome than closed reduction.

Injury cause, treatment, and long-term results [American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) Midfoot Score, Hannover Scoring System, Hannover Outcome Questionnaire] of patients with Chopart joint dislocations or fracture-dislocations were evaluated. Between 1972 and 1997, 100 patients with 110 Chopart joint dislocations were treated in the authors' institution. Pure Chopart joint dislocations were observed in 28 (25%) feet, fracture-dislocations in 60 (55%) feet, and combined Chopart-Lisfranc joint fracture-dislocations in 22 (20%) feet. The primary treatment was operative in 91 (83%) f

Simulated Bennett fracture treated with closed reduction and percutaneous pinning. A biomechanical analysis of residual incongruity of the joint.

UNLABELLED: Contact area and contact pressure within the trapeziometacarpal joint were measured during static and dynamic loading in a cadaver model. The measurements were repeated after a Bennett fracture had been simulated with use of an osteotomy of the metacarpal base. The beak fragment was recessed two millimeters and was fixed in close apposition to maintain the integrity of the palmar beak ligament, and contact area and contact pressure were measured during lateral pinch. Despite the resulting articular incongruity, the mean total contact area of the joint surface increased from 15.8 to

Anterior interosseous nerve palsy following closed fracture of the proximal ulna. A case report and review of the literature.

Complete paralysis of the anterior interosseous nerve was seen in 32-year-old army officer 5 weeks after he sustained a minimally displaced fracture of the proximal ulna. The fracture was immobilized in an arm cast. Thirteen weeks after injury, the cast was removed following evidence of bone union. Complete recovery of the flexor pollicis longus was noted 17 weeks after the injury, while recovery of the flexor profundus to the index finger to grade four lasted 10 months. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case reported in the English language literature in which anterior interosse

Anterior supracondylar fracture of the humerus (flexion type). A simple technique for closed reduction and fixation in adults and the aged.

The management of an anterior supracondylar fracture by closed reduction, traction, percutaneous pinning or open reduction is seldom satisfactory, especially for adults and the aged with a lesser ability to remodel and a slower functional recovery. A new, safe, and simple technique is described in which the condylar mass is pushed posteriorly along the axis of the forearm and the hand is rotated to full supination while the elbow is held in flexion to correct deformities. Fixation is divided into two parts: the circular cast around the upper arm provides a firm buttress onto which the lower fr

Functional and radiological outcome in patients with acute Monteggia fracture treated surgically: a comparison between closed reduction and external fixation versus closed reduction and elastic stable intramedullary nailing.

The aim of this study was to compare the clinical and radiological outcomes in children with acute Monteggia fracture treated by two different surgical techniques. Twenty-six children treated by either closed reduction and external fixation (group A) or elastic stable intramedullary nails (group B) were retrospectively reviewed. Clinical outcome was evaluated with the Quick DASH questionnaire. Overall, both surgical techniques provided similar excellent healing rates and good clinical outcomes (P > 0.05), as well as radiological outcomes (P > 0.05). Radiographically, no secondary displacement,

Prospective evaluation of a pragmatic treatment rationale: open reduction and internal fixation of displaced and dislocated condyle and condylar head fractures and closed reduction of non-displaced, non-dislocated fractures Part II: high condylar and condylar head fractures.

This study prospectively evaluated closed reduction (CR) outcomes in non-displaced, non-dislocated high-condylar and condylar-head fractures (Class VI after Spiessl and Schroll) and open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) of displaced (Class III) or dislocated (Class V) fractures. Thirty-eight patients with 54 fractures (16 (42%) with bilateral fractures, 14 (37%) CR, 24 (63%) ORIF) were enrolled in a 1 year follow-up that 18 patients with 33 fractures completed. Condylar translation in Class VI fractures recovered to 11 mm for vertical opening, 8mm for protrusion and 10 mm for mediotrusio

Double Reverse Traction-Assisted Versus Traditional Freehand Closed Reduction With Hexapod External Fixator in Treating Open Tibial Shaft Fractures: A Retrospective Study.

OBJECTIVE: Open tibial shaft fractures (OTSFs) pose significant therapeutic challenges due to high-energy trauma, extensive soft tissue damage, and contamination risks, complicating fracture stabilization and increasing infection rates. Conventional freehand closed reduction often requires multiple attempts, exacerbating soft tissue injury and radiation exposure. To address these limitations, this study evaluates a double reverse traction-assisted technique, hypothesizing that it could improve reduction accuracy and reduce complications in OTSFs managed with hexapod external fixators (HEFs).

Comparative Evaluation of Conventional (Static) Versus Dynamic Elastic Therapy for Closed Treatment of Unilateral Mandibular Sub-Condylar Fractures: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: The treatment of mandibular sub-condyle fractures is controversial. Guiding elastics play an important role in managing sub-condylar fractures, as their rationale revolves around the vector and traction alteration of the fractured ends. PURPOSE: This study aims to compare the outcomes of conventional closed treatment and dynamic elastic therapy for the treatment of unilateral mandibular sub-condylar fractures. STUDY DESIGN: The study design was a double-blinded prospective randomized controlled trial. Patients ≥ 18 years of age, with unilateral sub-condylar fractures with or with

Closed reduction and cast immobilization of overriding distal forearm fractures under nitrous oxide as conscious sedation without the use of imaging control.

PURPOSE: The management of overriding distal forearm fractures is still controversial. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of immediate closed reduction and cast immobilization (CRCI) at the emergency department (ED) using equimolar nitrous oxide (eN2O2) as conscious sedation, and without the use fluoroscopic assistance. METHODS: Sixty patients with overriding distal forearm fracture were included in the study. All procedures were performed in the ED without fluoroscopic assistance. Antero-posterior and lateral wrist radiographs were taken after CRCI. Follow-up radiographs were taken 7

Early Outcome Analysis of Management of Closed Pelvic Ring Fractures in Emergency: Conservative Versus Surgical at Level III Trauma Center in India.

INTRODUCTION: Pelvic bone fracture is often observed in high-speed road traffic accidents, and forms a medical emergency as it is often complicated with associated internal exsanguination, shock, and mortality. Managing such cases cost-effectively in a developing country with limited assets, without compromising on patient outcomes still remains an obstacle. OBJECTIVE: To compare and contrast the clinical aftermath of urgent non-surgical and surgical treatment of closed pelvic ring fracture patients and to analyze the types and severity of complications and final functional outcome. The design of an "H" joystick for closed reduction and its application in segmental and comminuted femoral shaft fractures: an innovative technique.

BACKGROUND: Closed reduction and locked intramedullary nailing has become a common surgical method in the treatment of femoral shaft fractures. Overlap and rotation displacements can usually be corrected through the use of an orthopedic traction table. However, lateral displacement and angulation persist. METHODS: In this paper, we describe a joystick that can be used in the closed reduction of a fracture. It can correct lateral displacement and angulation, and has the advantage of multi-direction reduction. The device described in this paper includes two parallel horizontal joysticks, one ve
