Pyogenic granuloma is defined as a benign neoplasm of vascular phenotype. This case describes the clinical and histopathological features of a gigantic mucogingival pyogenic granuloma, in a 14-year-old healthy black boy. This exophytic gray-purple mass, related to a toothpick injury, had more than twelve-month evolution on the anterior mandible involving lingual area besides to the floor of the mouth pressing the right salivary duct. Conservative excision was performed, followed by uncomplicated healing with no recurrence in two years. The histopathological examination reported a pyogenic gran

BACKGROUND: The pyogenic granuloma (PG) is a common localized hyperplastic lesion of the oral cavity. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the immunohistochemical expression of endothelial nitric oxide synthases (eNOS) and CD105/endoglin in oral PGs, to evaluate their involvement in the angiogenetic pathways of the lesion.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Ninety-three PGs were included in the study. Sixteen tumors were further sub-classified as pregnancy tumors (PT) and seventeen as pyogenic granulomas with fibrosis (PGFM). Immunohistochemical expression of eNOS and CD105/endoglin was qu

Lobular capillary hemangioma (pyogenic granuloma) is a common vascular proliferation that typically occurs in the superficial dermis, although rarely a subcutaneous form has been reported. Although these lesions are considered benign, localized recurrence after excision and satellite spread of the lesions are known phenomena. A case of lobular capillary hemangioma with the unusual features of both subcutaneous localization and locally aggressive behavior following surgery in a patient with a history of estrogen use and local trauma prior to the onset of the lesion is presented. The literature

OBJECTIVES: The molecular mechanism for the regression of pregnancy pyogenic granuloma after parturition remains unclear. It has been proposed that, in the absence of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), angiopoietin-2 (Ang-2) causes blood vessels to regress. Therefore, we investigated the roles of Ang-2 and VEGF in the regression of pregnancy pyogenic granuloma.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The effects of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) on the transcription of Ang-2 were tested in endothelial cells by reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction. A total of 15 specimens, including

INTRODUCTION: There are many studies on the epidemiology of the orphan disease polyarteritis nodosa (PAN) in European countries. The use of a hospital morbidity database is an important element of epidemiological analysis. The study is the first such analysis in Poland and may provide an opportunity to compare the data in a European context.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: We conducted a retrospective, population-based study using hospital discharge records with a PAN diagnosis. PAN incidence was estimated based on data from a Polish hospital morbidity study carried out by the National Institute of Pub

The pyogenic granuloma frequently appears between the ages of eleven and forty years. It is a benign soft tissue lesion of inflammatory origin, which may be misdiagnosed as a neoplastic tumor due to its rapid development. Definitive diagnosis can only be made by histopathologic examination. Treatment is by conservative local excision. The present manuscript reports on the diagnosis and treatment of such a lesion, which caused significant maxillary bone loss in a twelve-year-old child.

A 36-year-old immunocompetent man who have sex with men first presented to the plastics team with an ulcerating lesion on his left first toe. The lesion was suggestive of pyogenic granuloma (PG) clinically and histologically. Two years later, the same patient presented to the dermatology clinic with a new erythematous lesion with intermittent bleeding on the left second toe. Clinically, this lesion was suggestive of another PG. However, the histology of the skin curettage revealed part of a PG merging with an atypical spindle cell proliferation with characteristic 'sieve-like' appearance in ke

INTRODUCTION: Intravascular lobular capillary haemangioma is a rare benign intravascular tumour, especially in large vessels. This is the report of a case and associated literature review.
REPORT AND LITERATURE REVIEW: This is the report of the first case of an intravenous lobular capillary haemangioma (ILCH) of the superior vena cava (SVC). A 30 year old female presented with a collateral thoraco-abdominal venous circulation. Chest computed tomography angiography, thoracic magnetic resonance imaging, and positron emission tomography revealed an intraluminal SVC tumour extending from the left

Pyogenic granuloma (PG) is an acquired vascular growth on the skin and mucous membranes. Even though PG is a benign tumor, treatment is required due to associated risk of ulceration and bleeding, cosmetic concerns, and the low likelihood of spontaneous regression. Treatment entails excisional surgery, cryotherapy, or electrocautery; recurrence however is a major problem. Beta-blockers became an attractive option for the treatment of vascular growths after it got approved for infantile hemangioma. PG was found to express beta adrenergic receptors, similarly to infantile hemangioma. Several publ

The angiogenesis inhibitor ramucirumab (IMC-1121B) is a fully humanised IgG1 monoclonal antibody targeting the extracellular domain of vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2. Ramucirumab has been approved as a second-line treatment for lung cancer. Pyogenic granuloma is an acquired, benign vascular tumour of the skin or mucous membrane. We encountered a patient with pyogenic granuloma who was treated with ramucirumab. The patient was a 48-year-old Japanese woman with advanced lung cancer who had been heavily pretreated using several lines of chemotherapy. Ramucirumab was administered as

Treatment of pyogenic granuloma is still difficult as lesions tend to recur. There are various means of treatment: surgical, cryotherapy, topical agents and various lasers. We successfully treated two recurrent pyogenic granulomas at difficult sites (on the tip of the finger and ear) using the Nd: YAG laser (1064 nm). Several treatments under local anesthesia were needed. The energy was increased until coagulation was visible. The laser treatment led to complete resolution.

99mTc-labeled red blood cells (RBCs) scintigraphy was useful to detect the site of gastrointestinal (GI) tract bleeding in a 30-year-old woman. Other examinations, double-contrast barium meal study, fiberscopy and conventional contrast arteriography were unsuccessful in diagnosis. A surgical treatment was performed and GI tract bleeding from ileal pyogenic granuloma was proved. In this case the patient had no other obvious hemangioma or pyogenic granuloma. Pyogenic granuloma occurs most commonly on the exposed skin areas and very rare on the intestine.

Intravenous lobular pyogenic granuloma (ILPG) is a seldom-documented pathology in oculoplastic and orbital literature. This study aims to elucidate the clinical presentation and histopathologic findings surrounding periorbital ILPG through a case presentation and literature review. We describe a 42-year-old male with a palpable periorbital subcutaneous nodule that was subsequently diagnosed as ILPG on immunohistochemistry. A literature review was performed by searching articles in the PubMed/MEDLINE database using the keywords "periorbital intravenous lobular pyogenic granuloma," "periorbital

Pyogenic granulomas represent benign vascular tumors that can present on the skin and mucous membranes. Multiple etiologic agents have been implicated in the pathogenesis including several systemic medications. Two notable oncologic therapies, epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitors and vascular endothelial growth factor receptor inhibitors, have each been associated with drug-induced pyogenic granulomas. We report a novel case report of dual therapy, medication-induced pyogenic granulomas. This likely represents a synergistic relationship between an epidermal growth factor receptor inhibi

A 65-year-old women presented with sharply demarcated macules and small nodules on her face and neck for 2.5 years. They first appeared on her left face and gradually spread to her whole face and neck. The lesions were slightly pruritic. Her history was remarkable only for a high dose of topical tretinoin cream 0.025% dosage. On the basis of distribution and history, we made the diagnosis of contact dermatitis for the macules. A biopsy of a red papule from her neck revealed characteristics of pyogenic granuloma. However, white patches appear on his face at the third month follow-up after suspe

Pyogenic granuloma (PG) generally appears in the skin or oral cavity, but rarely occurs in the small intestine, where it can cause bleeding. To date, only 35 cases of small intestinal PG have been reported in the English literature. We retrospectively collected information from the clinical records of seven cases of small intestinal PG that were managed in our hospital and summarized the characteristics. Further information on the clinical characteristics was obtained from the literature. Capsule endoscopy, useful for identifying the source of hemorrhage in obscure gastrointestinal bleeding, c
