Postoperative intestinal care after major gynecologic surgery has changed considerably. The purpose of this review was to describe these changes. Our findings are that (1) preoperative mechanical bowel preparation does not lower the risk of anastomotic leakage and infection, (2) elective postoperative nasogastric tube decompression increases postoperative pneumonia and does not decrease the incidence of other postoperative complications, (3) early feeding after major gynecologic surgery reduces hospital stay and does not increase (and may decrease) pneumonia and other postoperative complicatio

OBJECTIVE: Solitary fibrous tumor is a rare mesenchymal tumor initially described arising in the pleura but now reported in many other thoracic and extrathoracic sites. Here we report the first case of a 14-year-old girl who was discovered to have a large solitary fibrous tumor of the uterine cervix, an unusual site for these tumors, to highlight the diagnosis and management of these tumors.

Ovarian cancer is the fifth most common cause of cancer-related death among women in the United States, although the median survival of patients has been increasing over the past few decades. In patients with epithelial ovarian cancer, chemotherapy has increased survival. Platinum agents combined with taxanes have become standard treatment. BACKGROUND: Laparoscopy is a very common procedure in gynaecology. Complications associated with laparoscopy are often related to entry. The life-threatening complications include injury to the bowel, bladder, major abdominal vessels, and anterior abdominal-wall vessel. Other less serious complications can also occur, such as post-operative infection, subcutaneous emphysema and extraperitoneal insufflation. We report a case of fistula between the uterus and broad ligament in a 28-year-old woman after cesarean section. The patient presented with right-sided pelvic pain, which worsened during menstruation. The diagnosis was made at laparoscopy. The patient subsequently underwent successful laparoscopic repair of the fistula confirmed by hysterosalpingography 4 months after surgery.

Recently there is an increasing trend for minimal access surgery (MAS) for treatment of uterine myomas.
