Difficulties in obtaining human nails that are large enough for examining the penetration of drug formulations led us to produce keratin films regenerated from human hair. We assume that these films can simulate human nail plates in drug penetration and permeation tests and can serve as a biological model for studying onychomycosis. This study investigated the kinetics of quetiapine and its metabolite 7-hydroxyquetiapine in guinea pig blood and hair roots during the whole time course of absorption and elimination after intragastric administration of three dosages (25 mg/kg, 50 mg/kg, 100 mg/kg). The mean maximum concentration (Cmax) values of quetiapine in the blood of the low-, medium- and high-dose groups were 334.4, 849.0, and 2751.1 ng/mL, respectively, and those of 7-hydroxyquetiapine were 75.6, 175.5, and 173.7 ng/mL, respectively. AIM: The objective of this study was to study efficacy of PRP therapy in follicular unit extraction (FUE) hair transplant.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: It is a single-blind, prospective randomised study on 40 FUE hair transplant subjects, allocated in two groups (PRP and non-PRP) alternately. PRP was injected intra-operatively immediately after creating slits over the recipient area in PRP group; and normal saline in non-PRP group. Trichodental syndrome is a rare autosomal dominant ectodermal dysplasia. Hair and dental anomalies have been found in different combinations in most affected persons in three families. The features of trichodental syndrome were observed in a young female in which sparse, fine, lustreless and slow growing hairs were associated with bigeminismus of inferior lateral incisors. Ultrastructural hair analysis showed consistent variation in contour of the shaft and reduced to absent cuticular scale. Distinguishing features in this patient were microcephaly and mild mental retardation.
