Granuloma annulare is a relatively common, idiopathic, benign inflammatory dermatosis, with a varied clinical presentation that often makes diagnosis difficult. It mainly affects the extremities, such as the dorsa of the hands and feet, forearms and legs. Palmar and plantar regions are generally spared. It occurs mainly in young female patients. The presentation of the palmar variant in an elderly patient is a rarity.

The individual burden of disease in hand eczema patients is considerable. However, little is known about the socio-economic impact of this disease. The aims of this review were to evaluate the literature on cost-of-illness in hand eczema, and to compose a checklist for future use. The literature was retrieved from the MEDLINE and EMBASE databases up to October 2015. Quality evaluation was based on seven relevant items in cost-of-illness studies. Cost data (direct and indirect) were extracted and converted into euros (2014 price level) by use of the Dutch Consumer Price Index. Six articles were

We report the case of a 27-year-old woman presenting with unilateral painless nodules of the left hand following trauma. Initially diagnosed as nontuberculous mycobacterium infection and treated with prolonged courses of antibiotics with little improvement, the condition was subsequently diagnosed histologically as erythema elevatum diutinum (EED). The lesion was treated with surgical excision, and the patient remained lesion-free at the 1-year follow-up. Although the lesion was otherwise asymptomatic, further investigation demonstrated an underlying IgA paraproteinaemia. This case should aler

Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is an aseptic ulcerative dermatosis, belonging to the group of neutrophilic dermatoses, and could reveal a systemic blood disorders or inflammatory disease. This dermatosis could mimic rapidly extensive necrotizing dermo-hypodermitis in some clinical aspects. PG can be caused by tissue trauma as in surgical procedure. In this context, this pathology is easily confused with bacterial necrotizing dermo-hypodermitis, the treatment of which gives priority to survival rather than functional outcome, and causes rapid deterioration especially in the upper limb. This case rep

A 28-year-old woman was seen for pruritic lesions on both hands and wrists which had been present since the age of 10 years. Both palms showed symmetric, diffuse hyperkeratosis extending over both wrists and the dorsal aspects of both hands with well-demarcated, erythematous, lichenified plaques (Figs 1 and 2). The borders of the plaques were pigmented and studded with papules (Fig. 2). The skin lesions were not related to sun exposure. No similar lesions were found elsewhere on the body. The hair, nails, and dental development were normal. A skin biopsy was taken for histopathologic and ultra

Sporotrichosis is the most common subcutaneous mycosis observed in Brazil as well as in different regions of the world. We report a rare case of sporotrichosis in a Caucasian male agricultural worker whose lesions occurred bilaterally and simultaneously on the upper limbs.
