OBJECTIVE: To report the outcomes and complications associated with prophylactic incisional gastropexy performed in dog breeds at risk for GDV.
RESULTS: Seven hundred and sixty-six dogs underwent prophylactic incisional gastropexy of which 61 were electively performed at the time of castration or spay and 705 were adjunctively performed at the time of emergency abdominal surgery. Transvaginal ultrasound-guided oocyte retrieval is the gold-standard technique for oocyte retrieval that has few associated procedural and post-procedural complications. Rarely, severe complications can occur including haemoperitoneum, for which the incidence reported in the literature is approximately 0.08-0.22%. In this report, we present the case of a nulliparous woman in her late 30s who presented to the hospital with severe abdominal pain following transvaginal ultrasound-guided oocyte retrieval and was found to have extensive haemoperitoneum attributed to ovarian rupture.

Abdominal and pelvic hemorrhage may be secondary to a number of causes and is often a medical emergency. Patient presentation ranges from obvious trauma with evidence of hemodynamic instability to vague symptoms. CT has become the imaging modality of choice for identifying abdominopelvic hemorrhage. Recognizing acute hemorrhage as well as identifying its location and severity are key to expediting management. A 27 year old patient was admitted with heterotopic pregnancy. Ultrasound scan done by her general practitioner had shown a 14 week viable intra-uterine pregnancy and fluid in the paracolic gutters. An exploratory laparatomy was done and she was found to have a ruptured right-sided ectopic pregnancy. Right partial salpingectomy was done. She had an uneventful post operative course. Ultrasound scan done at 18 weeks showed that the foetus was growing well.

Gastric epithelioid leiomyomatous (leiomyoblastomas) tumours primarily affect middle-aged men and usually present with upper gastro-intestinal bleeding, manifesting as haematemesia and/or melaena.
