Antibiotic resistance and molecular characterization of clinical Shigella spp. isolated from hospitals located in Tehran and Qazvin cities, Iran.

OBJECTIVE: This research aims to investigate the epidemiology and genetic changes of Shigella species in the cities of Qazvin and Tehran from 2003 to 2023, with a focus on assessing antibiotic resistance among the isolates. This study is based on the analysis of 80 Shigella isolates, which were obtained from patients' feces. RESULTS: Using pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) as the primary typing method, the isolates were classified into 13 distinct clusters, revealing a dominant pattern that has persisted for over twenty years. This persistence may be attributed to factors such as poor h

Antimicrobial susceptibilities, resistance mechanisms and molecular characteristics of toxigenic Clostridioides difficile isolates in a large teaching hospital in Chongqing, China.

OBJECTIVES: Clostridioides difficile ranks among the primary sources of healthcare-related infections and diarrhoea in numerous nations. We evaluated the drug susceptibility and resistance mechanisms of C. difficile isolates from a hospital in Chongqing, China, and identified resistance rates and resistance mechanisms that differed from previous findings. METHODS: The toxin genes and drug resistance genes of clinical strains were detected using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), and these strains were subjected to Multilocus Sequence Typing (MLST). The agar dilution technique was employed for a

Virulence factors, antibiotic susceptibility and sequence type distribution of hospital-associated Clostridioides difficile isolates in Israel, 2020-2022.

Biofilm formation and toxin production are some of the virulence factors of Clostridioides difficile (C. difficile), which causes hospital-acquired C. difficile infection (HA-CDI). This work investigated the prevalence and distribution of different strains recovered from HA-CDI patients hospitalized in 4 medical centres across Israel, and characterized strains' virulence factors and antibiotic susceptibility. One-hundred and eighty-eight faecal samples were collected. C. difficile 's toxins were detected by the CerTest Clostridium difficile GDH + Toxin A + B combo card test kit. Toxin loci PaL

Prevalence of cagA, cagM, vacA and oipA genes in isolates of Helicobacter pylori obtained from hospital patients in Northeast Brazil.

Helicobacter pylori is a major cause of gastrointestinal disorders such as chronic gastritis, peptic ulcers, mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma, and gastric cancer. It is estimated that around half of the world's population is infected with this pathogen, with underdeveloped countries reporting the highest frequencies. The genes cagA, cagM, vacA, and oipA are some of the most important virulence factors of H. pylori; however, there are no recent studies from Recife-PE demonstrating their frequency, and their relationship with severe gastric modifications. This work aims to use q

Phenotypic and genetic extended spectrum beta lactamase profiles of bacterial isolates from ICU in tertiary level hospital in Kenya.

BACKGROUND: Bacterial infections in the Intensive Care Units are a threat to the lives of critically ill patients. Their vulnerable immunity predisposes them to developing bacteria-associated sepsis, deteriorating their already fragile health. In the face of increasing antibiotics resistance, the problem of bacterial infection in ICU is worsening. Surveillance of bacterial infections in ICUs and drug resistance will help to understand the magnitude of the problem it poses and inform response strategies. We assessed bacterial infections in ICU setting by identifying prevalent Gram-negative bact

Molecular epidemiology, antimicrobial susceptibility, and toxin production of clinical Clostridioides difficile isolates from a teaching hospital in Northern China.

To grasp the epidemiological trend and drug resistance mechanisms of Clostridioides difficile (C. diff) in Beijing, 302 C. diff isolates were obtained from patients with diarrhea. The sequence types (STs) from mainstream strains were all susceptible to metronidazole, vancomycin, piperacillin/tazobactam, meropenem, and tigecycline but almost resistant to ciprofloxacin and clindamycin. The missense mutation of GyrA/GyrB and RpoB resulted in fluoroquinolone and rifamycin resistance, respectively. Toxigenic strains from clade IV were likely to be missed due to the deficiency of tcdA gene. Four tcd
