This study systematically analyzes the dynamic behavior of bearing tilt-misalignment coupling faults in rotary joints and establishes a high-fidelity nonlinear dynamic model for a dual-support bearing-rotor system. By integrating Hertzian contact theory, the nonlinear contact forces induced by the tilt of the inner/outer rings and axial misalignment are considered, and expressions for bearing forces incorporating time-varying stiffness and radial clearance are derived. BACKGROUND: Arthroscopic ankle arthrodesis (AAA) is a standard procedure for end-stage osteoarthritis of the ankle. One of the main concerns after AAA remains the development of secondary osteoarthritis in the subtalar and tarsal joints in the long term. This development is thought to be due to a compensatory increased mobility and therefore increased load on the adjacent joints. Therefore, the aim of the study was to analyze the residual motion of the tarsal joints, the load distribution under the foot, and the influence of tarsal joint motion on load distribution and gait pattern after AAA.

We present the case of a 65-year-old man who immigrated to the United States from India 24 years before the onset of symptoms. Gout is a common inflammatory arthritic condition, commonly affecting the first metatarsophalangeal joint (MPJ) in the foot. As reported in literature, only 6.8% of patients with pedal gout have the interphalangeal joints affected. Surgical treatment of gouty tophi in the foot is at times necessary in addition to diet modification and oral medications. We report on 7 cases of gout affecting interphalangeal joints that necessitated surgical treatment. Six out of 7 of the patients had no complications after surgery, and no reoccurrence, with an average follow-up time of 26 months.
