This study comprehensively evaluated the in vitro and in vivo anthelmintic efficacy and pharmacokinetics of four benzimidazole compounds: febantel (FB), fenbendazole (FBZ), albendazole (ABZ), and mebendazole (MBZ) against the gill fluke Microcotyle sebastis in cultured black rockfish (Sebastes schlegelii). Ancylostomum caninum larvae cause damage to the host at the point of entry through the skin leaving a wound vulnerable to secondary infections. As the larvae migrate through the skin an inflammatory response, dermatitis, is often stimulated which can be exacerbated in hosts which give hypersensitive responses. We assessed a 44-year-old man with contact dermatitis diagnosed as nickel allergy but caused by Ancylostoma caninum infection.

Enterobius vermicularis (pinworm) is one of the most prevalent intestinal parasites in the world. The urinary tract is rarely affected and few cases have been reported. We report a case of bladder infestation by mature female worms of E. vermicularis in a woman presenting with irritative voiding symptoms.

Hydatid disease is caused by the parasitic tapeworm. Echinococcus. This parasite in larval stage can thrive in many parts of the body, most commonly in the liver and the lung. Hydatid disease in the head and neck region is rare. An unusual location for hydatid disease in the pterygopalatine fossa-infratemporal fossa is presented. The patient did not have evidence of any other cyst on a ten-year follow-up.

The inhabitants with positive eggs of whipworm and ascaris in a village of Jiangdou County were examined and treated with different antihelmintic drugs twice a year. The uncured population were treated by drug administration once again. On an average the efficiency of drug treatment (cure rate x treatment rate) was 56.7% in whipworm and 64.5% in ascaris. From May 1981 to March 1984, consecutive surveys with Scotch tape perianal swab for enterobiasis were conducted among school children in 8 primary schools in the Nanao District, also involved were 1 junior high and 8 primary schools from the Tatung District, Ilan County, Northeast Taiwan. Extraintestinal enterobiasis has been reported in the vagina, endometrium, myometrium, ovary, fallopian tube and pelvic peritoneum. Gravid female pinworms may migrate from the perianal area to the vagina, ascend through the genital tract and exit through the fallopian tube to the peritoneum. Ectopic enterobiasis seldom causes clinical symptoms, but chronic granuloma formation may simulate other mass lesions in the pelvis.

The anthelmintic effect of an alcoholic extract from a shrub, Diospyros mollis, popularly known as Ma-Klua in Thailand, on the adults and larvae of the dwarf tapeworm, Hymenolepis nana, in mice was studied in comparison with that of flubendazole. The experimentally infected mice were given a single oral dose of 10-1000 mg of Ma-Klua extract or flubendazole/kg body wt 1, 2, 3, 4, or 12 days post-infection and autopsied 14 days post-infection. BACKGROUND: In Rwanda, about 1 in 3 people are affected by soil-transmitted helminthiases (38.7%) and 1 in 4 by schistosomiasis in high-risk areas (27.2% by point-of-care circulating cathodic antigen), both associated with poor water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). Mass drug administration (MDA) is the primary control strategy, but reported coverage may not reflect true reach. This study assessed MDA coverage of albendazole/mebendazole and praziquantel in selected districts, identified reasons for non-reach, examined factors associated with uptake, and described household WASH conditions.
