Metacarpophalangeal pattern (MCPP) analysis is an application of an anthropometric technique that provides a quantitative assessment of the amount and direction of abnormality in the hand skeleton. MCPP analysis was undertaken on 15 individuals (9 males, 6 females) with Noonan syndrome ranging in age from 0.1 to 36 years with a mean age at 11.6 years. The overall average Z score for the MCPP variables was -2.1 and the range was -2.5 (for metacarpal two) and -1.5 (for middle phalanx 5). A vascularised bone-graft procedure from the base of the second metacarpal was performed in 14 patients with nonunion of the scaphoid. There were 11 men and three women with a mean age of 22 years. We report the longterm clinical and radiological progression in three unrelated patients with the tibia-metacarpal form of chondrodysplasia punctata (CDP-TM). The aim of this population-based case-control study was to examine the association between bone mass and upper limb fractures in children aged 9-16 yr. Areal bone mineral density and bone mineral apparent density (BMAD) were measured by both dual energy absorptiometry (DXA) and metacarpal index (MI) by hand radiograph. Thirty two patients with fracture dislocations of the base of the thumb metacarpal with a single large fracture fragment (Bennett's fracture) were either treated by open reduction and internal fixation or closed reduction and percutaneous transarticular Kirschner wiring.
