The regulators of Mycobacterium tuberculosis DNA replication are largely unknown. Here, we demonstrate that in synchronously replicating M. tuberculosis, MtrA access to origin of replication (oriC) is enriched in the post-replication (D) period. The increased oriC binding results from elevated MtrA phosphorylation (MtrA∼P) as evidenced by reduced expression of dnaN, dnaA and increased expression of select cell division targets. Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is an autoimmune disease that can be triggered by different infectious agents. Here we report the case of a 26-year-old Algerian woman who developed GBS associated with a Mycobacterium bovis cervical lymphadenitis. Following intravenous immunoglobulin therapy, the patient's neurologic state returned to normal after 3 months. BACKGROUND: Tuberculides are skin lesions caused by the hematogeneous dissemination of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Bacilli are rapidly destroyed in the skin and are thus neither visible histologically nor identifiable by culture. Diagnosis depends on previous knowledge of systemic and/or cutaneous tuberculosis. Lichen scrofulosorum (LS), the most uncommon variant of tuberculid, is usually associated with M. tuberculosis infection of lymph nodes or bone but was also reported in association with other mycobacterioses.

Mycobacterium marinum is the most frequent non-tuberculous Mycobacterium in humans. We report the first ever described case of epididymoorchitis resulting from hematogenous spread of M. marinum from hand oligoarthritis. This was initially mistaken for rheumatoid disease and methylprednisolone-induced immunosuppression led to hematogenous spread of infection to the testis and epididymis.

We report Mycobacterium fortuitum (M. fortuitum) catheter-related sepsis in a five-year-old boy with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL). This is the first reported case of M. fortuitum infection seen in our paediatric oncology patients. rBCG30, the first vaccine against tuberculosis demonstrated more potent than BCG in preclinical studies, is the prototype of a class of vaccines that utilize BCG as a host organism for expressing and secreting Mycobacterium tuberculosis major extracellular proteins. The vaccine is based on the concept that extracellular proteins of intracellular pathogens are key immunoprotective molecules. rBCG30, which expresses and secretes large amounts of the M. tuberculosis 30 kDa major secretory protein, is currently in human clinical trials.
