A 14-year-old Hispanic boy presented with a 0.25-mm wide, sharply demarcated, dark brown band of longitudinal melanonychia of the left thumbnail. A clinical diagnosis of nail matrix nevus was made and the boy was scheduled for follow-up. The band showed proximal fading after 6 months and had completely faded after 11 months, with the proximal nail fold showing small dark brown dots on dermoscopy. We documented the spontaneous regression of melanonychia over 11 months.

Nevus spilus is the term usually given to a pigmented skin lesion, congenital or acquired, that may occur anywhere on the body, consisting of a large light tan patch with numerous superimposed darker scattered maculae or papulae that are flat or slightly raised. For a long time, nevus spilus was believed to be a benign lesion. However, in 1957 Perkinson reported a melanoma appearing on nevus spilus for the first time. Since then other reports about melanomas developing on nevus spilus have been published, sometimes with a fatal outcome. We describe the case of an 80-year-old male patient with …

Dermal melanocytosis refers to congenital or acquired lesions characterized by the presence of dendritic cells derived from melanocytes that migrate from the neural crest to the epidermis. The nevus of Ito develops in the territory supplied by the acromioclavicular nerve. Malignant transformation in dermal melanocytosis is extremely rare, with only isolated case reports; only 2 cases of malignant transformation of a nevus of Ito have been reported. We report a very rare case that is the third to be described in the literature. The patient was a 24-year-old man who presented with a subcutaneous…

CONTEXT: Becker nevus has been reported to be associated with lichen planus (LP) in isolated case reports in past. The association of LP and vitiligo has been noted in few cases and has been attributed to a common autoimmune etiology. The coexistence of lichen planus, vitiligo and Becker nevus has not been reported so far.
CASE REPORT: A thirty five years old male presented with lesions of Becker nevus along with vitiligo and Lichen planus coexisting at one place on right side of the chest. Vitiligo and Becker nevus could not be treated. Lichen planus was confirmed histopathologically. We wer…

Congenital lipomatous overgrowth, vascular malformations, and epidermal nevi (CLOVE) syndrome is a recently described syndrome similar to Proteus syndrome but lacking the progressive or distorting bony overgrowth of Proteus syndrome. We describe a neonate with features of CLOVE syndrome and nevus unius lateris.

BACKGROUND: Regression of congenital melanocytic nevi is usually accompanied by the halo phenomenon and is considered a rare event.
OBJECTIVE: A 15-year-old woman presented for the evaluation of multiple halo nevi. She had on her trunk a figure-of-eight pigmentary lesion, which had been developed after the coalescence of two distinct congenital melanocytic nevi. Close to the indentation between the two portions of the lesion, there was an achromic rounded area, extending from the perinevic skin to the nevus, causing its partial regression.
METHODS AND MATERIALS: Dermoscopic examination discl…

A 1-year-old girl presented for evaluation of a linear plaque on her forehead. She was born at 36 weeks' gestation following an uncomplicated pregnancy and delivery. At birth, she was noted to have an enlarged right cheek. She had no seizure history, but developed grand mal seizures 1 year later. On examination, she had a yellow plaque on her forehead which extended onto her nose. Under her right jaw, extending onto her anterior neck, there was a café-au-lait macule within which there was a yellow plaque which followed the lines of Blaschko. Her right cheek was enlarged and was erythematous (F

Medulloblastoma (MB), a tumor of the cerebellum, is the most frequent type of malignant childhood brain tumor. Multiple genes are causally involved in medulloblastoma including PATCHED1 (PTCH). The Patchedl (Ptc1) protein is a receptor for Sonic hedgehog (Shh), a secreted protein ligand. Shh is involved in many signaling processes that control cell fate and growth, among which is its emission from Purkinje cells in the developing cerebellum. Purkinje cell-derived Shh stimulates mitosis of the granule cell precursors that may be the cell type of origin in medulloblastoma. Ptc1 limits the effect
