Using a Tibetan Gong to Increase Staff Member Engagement During Time Outs.

Perioperative and procedure area nurses can encounter barriers during the time-out process. In March 2016, a mock regulatory agency surveyor identified a gap during a time out in our cardiac catheterization laboratory. We worked with our facility's holistic nursing group to identify a solution to gain the full attention of all procedure area team members during each time out. Historically, ceremonial leaders used a gong to begin events because they thought that the sound helped participants focus on the ceremony. Because we wanted staff members to participate in a mindful practice during time

Transforming Alcohol and Other Drug Education Through Co-Design.

Over the past decade, as a broader push to address community needs and improve health outcomes, socially marginalised people have become increasingly involved in co-design research and education. More recently, people with lived experience of substance dependence have co-designed and co-delivered Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) education with nurse educators. Evaluations of co-designed AOD education have largely focused on educational and clinical outcomes but not on the process of co-design. Because of this gap, there is a need for research that explores the process of undertaking co-design wit

Meeting the evolving demands of neurointervention: Implementation and utilization of nurse practitioners.

Growth in the neurointerventional field, as a result of the emergence of thrombectomy as the gold standard treatment for large vessel occlusions, has created complex challenges. In an effort to meet evolving demands and fill workflow gaps, nurse practitioners have taken on highly specialized roles. Neurointerventional care has rapidly evolved similarly to interventional cardiac care, in that nurse practitioners are successfully being incorporated as procedural assistants in catheterization laboratories. Similar utilization of nurse practitioners in interventional neuroradiology holds the capac

No Sensorization without Representation: Co-designing Tailored Sensorization Plans with Nursing Home Leadership, Direct Care Staff, Residents, and Resident Family Members.

OBJECTIVE: : Although interest in using sensors in long-term care (LTC) settings is growing, little guidance exists on how to engage stakeholders in planning. This study aimed to (1) develop a systematic, community-engaged process for co-designing sensorization plans - defining goals and parameters (e.g., data collection, sharing) to support decision making prior to sensor deployment, (2) apply this process with LTC stakeholders, and (3) examine stakeholder perspectives across sensor approaches. METHODS: : We conducted a multi-phase, multi-method study in a single nursing home that included o

An Integrative Review of Nurse-to-Nurse Incivility, Hostility, and Workplace Violence: A GPS for Nurse Leaders.

Bullying, lateral violence, and incivility are real phenomena in the nursing workplace and remain widespread across all care settings. The American Nurses Association recommends zero tolerance for any form of violence from any source and adopting evidence-based strategies to mitigate incivility and bullying. This integrative review examined the evidence regarding nurse-to-nurse incivility, bullying, and workplace violence for 4 nurse populations-student, new graduate, experienced, and academic faculty. Ganong and Cooper's review methodology structured the evidence synthesis. Twenty-one article

Development of a Citrate Reaction Grading and Treatment Chart for Patients Undergoing Leukapheresis Procedures.

Calcium supplementation to prevent or treat hypocalcemic symptoms during leukapheresis is not standardized. Institutions vary in practice. Within an institution, there is also nursing variability. Recognizing the need to harmonize our practices, the apheresis nurses at our institution launched a process improvement initiative to develop a standardized Citrate Reaction Grading and Treatment Chart for leukapheresis procedures. Based on nurse surveys, interdisciplinary collaboration, and clinical data, the chart enhances recognition and management of hypocalcemia-related symptoms, aiming to impro

The Invisible Human-in-the-Loop: An Evolutionary Concept Analysis of Artificial Intelligence in Nursing Assistant Practice.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly entering long-term care (LTC) environments, but its significance for the workforce performing the vast majority of hands-on care tasks, certified nursing assistants (CNAs), remains unclear. CNAs remain underrepresented in the literature on AI in nursing, which has focused on registered nurses (RNs) as clinical decision-makers. The missing element inhibits the conceptualization process and thus the research, teaching, and policymaking processes. To define this concept in the age of generative AI, this paper conducts a concept analysis using Rodgers' evolu

Measuring unfinished nursing care in patients with or at risk for delirium: a development and Delphi study.

BACKGROUND: Unfinished Nursing Care (UNC) refers to necessary patient care interventions that are delayed or omitted. Although several instruments exist to measure UNC, none are specifically designed for patients at risk of or experiencing delirium. These patients often have difficulty communicating their needs, making it harder for nurses to identify and prioritize appropriate care. METHODS: A seven-round Delphi study, based on the Conducting and Reporting Delphi Studies (CREDES) framework, was conducted to develop the Unfinished Nursing Care Survey for Patients at Risk of and with Delirium

[Sexual attraction: a concept analysis using an evolutionary perspective].

BACKGROUND: Medical technology has transformed the body image of women and altered perceptions of beauty and sexual attraction. While "sexual attraction" is a fundamental concept in sexology, the characteristics of this concept have not been studied in the field of nursing. Because nurses provide advice and health education for women, it is essential to clarify the concept of sexual attraction for the benefit of related nursing research and for the further development of nursing knowledge. PURPOSE: This study explores the concept of sexual attraction in a Taiwanese social context using concep

Clinical skills: bowel elimination and management of complications.

Bowel elimination is a basic bodily function that most people carry out in private and are often embarrassed to discuss publicly. Nurses will encounter patients with bowel elimination issues in all areas of care. Knowledge and understanding of both normal function and the problems that can occur with that process will enable nurses to support and care for patients with bowel elimination problems. This article discusses the normal anatomy and physiology of elimination, problems, such as faecal incontinence, diarrhoea and constipation, and the nurse's role in their management. The importance of
