This project is designed to provide tertiary prevention services to physically abusive and physically neglectful families. The prevention service described, Volunteer Peer Support Therapy, is expected to significantly improve parenting skills and parents' expectations concerning their child, their knowledge about appropriate child behaviors, and coping strategies. The aim of the project is not only to intervene during crises, but also to improve the parent-child relationship on a long-term basis. The beliefs of a sample of 41 mothers, from the Benabena region of the Eastern Highlands of Papua New Guinea, about malnutrition were studied. The current EPI (Expanded Programme on Immunization) vaccines do not specifically target the organisms that lead to the two main causes of death in children - pneumonia and diarrhoea. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to describe parents' experiences in caring for 2-5-year-old children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA).
DESIGN AND METHODS: A qualitative study using single-occasion in-depth interviews was conducted. Nine parents (eight mothers and one father) were interviewed in-person or via telephone. Data were analyzed using inductive content analysis. Methods used to protect the trustworthiness of study results included maintenance of an audit trail, peer debriefing, and member checks.

We herein report the case of a 3-year-old girl with atypical congenital right upper limb lymphedema who developed an angiosarcoma. Only a few cases have been reported following congenital form of lymphedema and only 4 in such a young child. We saw a child after normal delivery with mild hematoma but a substantial deviation of the nose. The child had no respiratory distress nor in rest nor during effort. We decided not to perform a reposition of the nose but watched further development. After a few weeks the nose straightened significantly, and was nearly normal after 3 months. An exam after 1 year did not show any deviation. Recent studies only advise to perform surgical steps, if there is respiratory distress. This well documented case is an impressive example for the ability of the neonatal nose to help itself.

Congenital thoracic ectopic kidney is a rare developmental anomaly, with the thorax being the rarest and higher location of ectopic kidneys. This anomaly is usually asymptomatic and discovered incidentally on routine chest radiography. A child with congenital nephrotic syndrome underwent renal transplantation, was treated for acute rejection, and then developed nephrotic syndrome and renal failure. He was felt to have minimal change disease on allograft biopsy, but failed to respond to therapy with corticosteroids. Cyclophosphamide was substituted for cyclosporine and rapidly induced a complete remission of his nephrotic syndrome.
