[Skeletal anchorage combined orthodontic treatment of temporomandibular disorder].

Temporomandibular disorder is the most common form of orofacial pain. Today it affects 15% of the adult population and 7% of adolescents. It is characterised by pain originating from the muscles and/or the temporomandibular joint and vocal symptoms accompanying jaw movements, as well as muscle fatigue, lockjaw and tooth wear. Chronic pain due to jaw dysfunction can lead to the deterioration of the patient’s psychological state and negatively affect their quality of life. As the temporomandibular joint is closely related to dentition, any modification of the existing bite must be taken into acc

Lithium reduces orthodontically induced root resorption by suppressing cell death, hyalinization, and odontoclast formation in rats.

OBJECTIVES: To examine whether lithium suppresses orthodontically induced root resorption (OIRR) via two mechanisms (prevention of hyalinization in periodontal tissue and suppression of odontoclasts) and to investigate the changes in the periodontal tissue and alveolar bone, focusing on the appearance of cell death, hyalinization, and odontoclasts. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The maxillary first molars of 10-week-old male Wistar rats were moved mesially by a closed-coil spring for 14 days. Lithium chloride (LiCl; 0.64 mM/kg) or saline (control) was administered intraperitoneally daily. Tooth movem

Factors related to stability following the surgical correction of skeletal open bite.

OBJECTIVES: If a skeletal anterior open bite malocclusion is treated by orthognathic surgery directed only at the mandible, the lower jaw is repositioned upward in a counter-clockwise rotation. However, this procedure has a high risk of relapse. In the present study, the key factors associated with post-surgical stability of corrected skeletal anterior open bite malocclusions were investigated. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Eighteen orthognathic patients were subjected to cephalometric analysis to assess the dental and skeletal changes following mandibular surgery for the correction of an anterior op

Case report of severe unilateral posterior scissors bite in children treated with clear aligners.

UNLABELLED: Posterior scissors bite is a clinically common severe malocclusion, which often leads to impaired masticatory function, unilateral mastication habit and progressive facial asymmetry. This case report presented an 8-year-old boy with severe unilateral posterior scissors bite in mixed dentition, who received early interceptive orthodontic treatment with bracket-free clear aligners combined with alternating intermaxillary traction. The treatment procedures included staged expansion of dental arch width, uprighting of severely lingually inclined molars, and complete correction of poste

Cone-beam CT-guided root uprighting of a severely angulated impacted maxillary canine using a boot loop and micro-screw: A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Orthodontic traction of impacted maxillary canines remains a clinical challenge, particularly when the tooth is severely angulated. Conventional force application to the crown may increase the risk of damage to adjacent roots due to insufficient control of root positioning. This case demonstrates the use of a boot loop in combination with a micro-screw to upright the canine root within the alveolar bone before potential root contact. Treatment alternatives and biomechanics are discussed to illustrate the effectiveness of this approach.Diagnosis and treatment plan:A boy aged 14 ye

Genetic Determinants of Primary Failure of Eruption: A Comprehensive Review of PTH1R Variants.

Primary Failure of Eruption (PFE) is a disorder characterized by aberrant tooth eruption, in which one or more teeth fail to follow the physiological eruptive pathway and remain partially or completely embedded within the bone or soft tissues. Although the etiopathogenesis of PFE is not yet fully elucidated, several contributing factors have been identified, including genetic alterations, hormonal disturbances, and systemic conditions. An expanding body of evidence points to the centrality of genetic determinants in the etiopathogenesis of PFE, supporting its occurrence in both syndromic conte

Myobrace versus twin block in the treatment of class II malocclusion in Children: A systematic review.

BACKGROUND: One of today's largest global problems is malocclusion. We must prevent this through the screening and early treatment of young children, because malocclusion treatment conducted during a child's growth and development stage either the primary or mixed dentition era yields the best outcomes. Functional appliances are usually used during initial orthodontic treatment, such as myobrace and twin block appliances. Myobraces come in various sizes. The size chosen depends on the treatment objectives, which may include correcting class II malocclusions. The twin block appliance is a funct

Orthodontic aligners: between passion and science.

INTRODUCTION: The benefits and safety of using orthodontic aligners have been reported more by clinical experience and expert opinion than by scientific evidence. Another important aspect is that aligners are constantly evolving. It is important to obtain evidence that allows for new updates in manufacturing technology, in the development of new movement planning protocols, in the incorporation and design of attachments, and in the aid of skeletal anchorage. METHODS: Evidence retrieved from six electronic databases (CINAHL, MEDLINE, EMBASE, Psych Info, the Cochrane Library and the Joanna Brig

Partial tooth formation diagnosed eight years after an extraction of the maxillary third molar germ in a complete crown formation stadium: A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Orthodontic purposes, such as the prevention of anterior crowding, are common and controversial indications for surgical removal of the third molar (M3) germ in young patients. A higher tooth bud position and the risk of tooth displacement in the infratemporal fossa when surgery of the maxillary M3 germ is planned makes the success of germectomy unlikely with little benefit. A rare complication of maxillary M3 germ surgery is partial tooth building after germectomy. PRESENTATION OF CASE: We report the case of a 14-year-old patient who was referred for germectomy of the maxillary
