The long-term effect on periapical healing (8-14 months) of CRCS and Sealapex was compared with that of AH 26. Vital pulpectomy and root canal filling by the hybrid thermomechanical method were performed in teeth of 3 young monkeys. Ten roots with CRCS, 10 with Sealapex and 7 roots with AH 26 were examined after demineralization and routine histological processing. Hematoxylin and eosin and Brown & Brenn staining for micro-organisms were employed. Mild to severe inflammatory lesions were found at the apical foramina of the roots filled with AH 26 and CRCS. Most of the Sealapex specimens showed

Successful implant rehabilitation depends on accurate diagnosis, adequate preservation of the alveolar ridge, and precise implant positioning. Teeth with persistent periapical pathology following failed endodontic treatment often require extraction, making careful treatment planning essential to achieve predictable functional and esthetic outcomes. The use of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and computer-designed surgical guides has improved the accuracy of implant placement while facilitating prosthetically driven treatment. We present the case of an American Society of Anesthesiologists

Apical periodontitis (AP) is an oral inflammatory disease induced by dental pulp infection. It is characterized by inflammation, destruction, and resorption of mineralized tissues located around the dental apex. Although this is a local infection, pathogens and their products in the periapical area, as well as inflammatory cytokines, can reach other regions of the body and trigger a systemic immune/inflammatory response in the host. This condition has been associated with several types of systemic diseases. This systematic review aimed to explore the association between AP and neuroinflammatio

INTRODUCTION: Although the symptoms and radiographic signs may mimic rhinogenic sinusitis, odontogenic sinusitis (OS) with periapical lesions (PALs) is fundamentally an endodontic infection. It is considered to be one of the main causes of OS, especially when presented unilaterally. Despite this routine dental examination is not performed and periapical infection frequently remains undiagnosed by otolaryngologists and radiologists.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: This prospective observational study covered a group of 61 patients with symptomatic OS with PAL. Assessment of quality of life was done usin

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of photodynamic therapy as an adjunct to conventional endodontic treatment in patients with apical periodontitis and fistulas. In this study, a fistula is characterized as a pathological conduit originating from the infected region at the root apex of the tooth, traversing the oral mucosa, and extending to the external surface of the gingiva. This pathological condition frequently complicates the management of endodontic infections, thereby necessitating the evaluation of supplementary therapeutic interventions. The standard treatment for end

Infective endocarditis (IE) remains a severe condition associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Dental procedures involving manipulation of gingival tissue or the periapical region may cause transient bacteremia, making prevention strategies at the dental-medical interface clinically important. Current guidance emphasizes selective antibiotic prophylaxis (AP) for patients at the highest cardiac risk while prioritizing long-term oral health maintenance. This scoping review synthesizes contemporary evidence (2021-2025) and major international guidelines to clarify the relationship be

BACKGROUND: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a common metabolic disorder, and persistent hyperglycemia may impair oral health through various immun … rence of AP and the failure of periapical healing following endodontic treatment. PGC may aggravate periapical tissue damage and inflammation through proinflammatory immune pathways. Clinicians should consider comprehensive evaluation and individualized management of DM patients during endodontic therapy to improve treatment outcomes and oral health.

Apical periodontitis is caused primarily by microorganisms residing in the root canals of affected teeth. Nevertheless, there is convincing evidence implicating other independent factors that adversely affect the outcome of conventional root canal therapy. In this paper, morphological evidence is presented in support of the potential role of two endogenous factors that may interfere with post-endodontic healing of the periapex. The specimens consisted of a surgical biopsy of an asymptomatic periapical lesion which persisted for a follow-up period of 44 months. The biopsy was processed for corr

Mast cells are mobile granule-containing secretory cells that are distributed preferentially about the microvascular endothelium in oral mucosa and dental pulp. The enzyme profile of mast cells in oral tissues resembles that of skin, with most mast cells expressing the serine proteases tryptase and chymase. Mast cells in oral tissues contain the pro-inflammatory cytokine tumour necrosis factor-alpha in their granules, and release of this promotes leukocyte infiltration during evolving inflammation in several conditions, including lichen planus, gingivitis, pulpitis, and periapical inflammation

INTRODUCTION: Inflammatory cysts, granulomas, abscesses, and fibrous scars represent most periapical radiolucencies. However, other less common lesions, such as orthokeratinized odontogenic cysts (OOCs), can be found at this region, and they deserve to be discussed because the prognosis for an OOC is different from that expected for the ordinary inflammatory periapical diseases.
METHODS: An interesting case of OOC associated with a nonvital tooth in a 40-year-old woman is described. After a previous clinical diagnosis of a radicular cyst, the tooth was extracted, and the lesion was enucleated
