The ability of the free radical scavenger, mannitol, and the synthetic glucocorticoid, methylprednisolone sodium succinate (MPSS) to reverse the effects of iron catalyzed free radical induced lipid peroxidation was assessed in the feline spinal cord. Of 739 dermatitis patients, 4.1% showed a positive patch test reaction to benzoyl peroxide 1% in petrolatum. Forty-one patients with leg ulcers (patch test: negative to benzoyl peroxide) were treated with a 20% benzoyl peroxide emulsion for 4 weeks. After this therapy, the sensitization rate was as high as that for the maximization test, namely 76%. Lipid peroxide levels and activities of various enzymes were examined in sera from five thermally injured patients. Use was made of a model system initiating lipid peroxidation, that contained phosphate buffer, H2O2 and eosine. Chemiluminescence of the system decreased after addition to rat brain synaptosomes, thereby indicating the presence of antioxidants in the animals' brain. During the manufacture of a monoclonal antibody drug product, which was aseptically filled within a vapor phase hydrogen peroxide-sanitized isolator, samples were taken to investigate the hydrogen peroxide uptake behaviors.
