Data-centric technologies demand energy-efficient, densely integrable spintronic building blocks, motivating the search for two-dimensional (2D) ferromagnets combining room-temperature Curie temperatures (TC) and perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA). Compared with halides and chalcogenides, transition-metal nitrides (TMN2) feature short metal-nitrogen bonds and strong p-d hybridization, which can substantially reshape crystal-field splitting and magnetic exchange pathways. Through systematic first-principles screening of hexagonal h-TMN2 (TM = 3,4,5d) monolayers, we identify h-VN2 and h-CrN

Three-dimensional (3-D) scaffolds made of polymers are relevant for cell culture and sensor immobilization to convert biological signals into optical signals for detection. We present a computational study of 3-D pillar-and-scaffold nanostructures designed for embedding the negatively charged nitrogen vacancy (NV-) color centers in nanodiamonds, focusing on light confinement and emission enhancement. To develop optically active platforms for quantum sensing, we analyze the electric field profiles in both pillar-without-scaffold and pillar-and-scaffold dielectric structures at the zero phonon l

The orthorhombic van der Waals (vdW) layered crystal α-MoO3 is a promising material for infrared nanophotonics; in particular, it may host highly confined hyperbolic phonon polaritons (HPhPs) with wavelength-dependent in-plane anisotropy. However, large-area and uniform single crystals are challenging to grow on substrates, as current α-MoO3 growth methods struggle to manage adverse tendencies in size, texturing, and roughness. In this work, we establish an alkali salt-assisted chemical vapor deposition (SA-CVD) growth technique to produce smooth, high-quality, and millimeter-scale single-crys

Lead-free halide double perovskites have emerged as promising candidates for optical sensing owing to their excellent structural stability and tunable optoelectronic properties. In this work, a series of Cs2Na1-xAgxInCl6:10 mol%Yb3+, 2 mol%Er3+ (x = 0-0.3) phosphors were synthesized to investigate the effects of Ag substitution on the crystal structure, upconversion luminescence, temperature- and pressure-sensing performances. X-ray diffraction and Raman scattering analyses reveal that Ag incorporation induces lattice contraction and shifts the Raman bands toward higher wavenumbers, suggesting

Control over the supramolecular environment of emissive metal halide clusters offers an attractive route to tune the photophysical behavior of hybrid phosphors. Among these systems, ionic [Cu4I6]2- cluster phosphors are promising blue excitable emitters that exhibit broadband cluster-centered luminescence; however, rational strategies for modulating their local environment remain limited. Here, a supramolecular host-guest approach was employed to stabilize and tune [Cu4I6]2- clusters using 18-crown-6 (18C6) in combination with three ammonium-derived cations of increasing steric and hydrophobic

The need to develop high-performance optoelectronic and semiconductor materials drives the search for new materials with tunable electronic and optical properties. The alkaline earth metal tellurides (AEMTe, where AEM = Be, Mg, Ca, Sr, and Ba) are particularly appealing among the group II-VI binary semiconductors because of their unique electrical structures and potential for band gap engineering. This study employs a thorough DFT-based methodology to examine the structural and optical characteristics of these structures. To guarantee high-fidelity findings, we combined scalar-relativistic ONC

AgBiP2Se6 is a ferroelectric semiconductor with a Curie temperature above 300 K which also possesses a variety of functional capabilities. In this work, it is demonstrated that despite its intrinsically indirect bandgap, multilayer (ML) AgBiP2Se6 exhibits unexpectedly strong photoluminescence, attributed to its quasi-direct band structure. The energy difference between the indirect and direct transitions is relatively small (≈0.075 eV), as confirmed by both theoretical calculations and experimental observations. Temperature-dependent optical measurements, corroborated by electronic band struct

This study explores a van der Waals heterostructure (vdWH) PtS2/MoSi2P4 as a potential candidate material for sustainable energy applications in thermoelectrics and photovoltaics. This heterostructure exhibits a small lattice mismatch of ∼3%, indicating excellent interlayer compatibility. The phonon spectrum reveals the absence of imaginary frequencies across the Brillouin zone, indicating dynamic stability. These characteristics suggest that vdWH PtS2/MoSi2P4 offers robust structural integrity and synthesis feasibility for next-generation energy devices. This heterostructure exhibits a direct

Cesium lead bromide (CsPbBr3) nanocrystals (NCs) with nanoplatelet shapes and different crystal structures were synthesized via the ligand-assisted reprecipitation (LARP) method using different pairs of ligands and antisolvents, namely oleic acid (OA) or linoleic acid (LA) as the ligand and toluene or chloroform as the antisolvent. The XRD data revealed that the obtained CsPbBr3 NCs have different crystal structures, namely orthorhombic, tetragonal, and cubic, depending on the ligand and antisolvent pair, which exhibited significantly different photoluminescence (PL) characteristics. In this work, we have designed and synthesized nickel-laden dendritic plasmonic colloidosomes of Au (black gold-Ni). The photocatalytic CO2 hydrogenation activities of black gold-Ni increased dramatically to the extent that measurable photoactivity was only observed with the black gold-Ni catalyst, with a very high photocatalytic CO production rate (2464 ± 40 mmol gNi-1 h-1) and 95% selectivity. Notably, the reaction was carried out in a flow reactor at low temperature and atmospheric pressure without external heating. The catalyst was stable for at least 100 h. Ultrafast transient absorption

A novel Sr2SiO4:Eu (1-5mol %) superstructures (SS) were synthesized using bio-sacrificial A.V. gel assisted ultrasound method. Powder X-ray diffraction patterns confirmed the presence of both α and β phase formation. It was evident that the morphological growth was highly reliant on A.V. gel concentration, sonication time, pH and sonication power. The formation mechanisms for different hierarchical SS were proposed. From diffuse reflectance spectra, the energy band gap was estimated and found to be ∼4.70-5.11eV. The photoluminescence emission spectra for the excitation at 392nm, shows characte

Thermoelectric devices, which can generate electricity from waste heat, offer an attractive pathway for addressing an important niche in the globally growing landscape of energy demand. In the past few decades, the search for high-efficiency thermoelectrics has been guided by the concept of 'phonon-glass electron-crystal' (PGEC), i.e. an ideal thermoelectric material should have high carrier mobility and low thermal conductivity. Although remarkable progress has already been made along this line, the efficiency of thermoelectrics is still too poor to compete with other electricity producing me

The practical implementation of photocatalytic water splitting for sustainable hydrogen production is largely limited by the efficiency of the oxygen evolution reaction at the photoanode. Gallium nitride is a promising material for photoanode fabrication, provided that suitable nanostructuring strategies are applied to enhance its efficiency and stability. Here, we report the functionalization of gallium nitride nanowires with a 5 nm-thick titanium dioxide layer of and a 10 nm biomimetic polydopamine coating, resulting in a 1.9-fold (190%) increase in the anodic photocurrent, as demonstrated b

Graphene-based van der Waals heterobilayers play a fundamental role in the fabrication of optoelectronic, micro- and nanoelectronic, and spintronic devices. In this paper, four new stackings for the (4 × 4)-AlN/(5 × 5)-graphene denominated as AA, AA', A'B, and A'B' are investigated, using density functional theory. The results of the binding energy show that stackings AA and AA' are the most energetically favorable, and the calculations of the energy of formation and the phononic dispersion curves prove that the two stackings with and without monovacancies of Al (VAl) and N (VN) are structural

To address environmental pollution and sustainable energy challenges, lead-free Ag-Bi double perovskites Cs2AgBiX6 (X = Cl, Br) and their ammonium-substituted variants CsNH4AgBiX6 and (NH4)2AgBiX6 are investigated using first-principles FP-LAPW calculations within density functional theory. Ammonium incorporation slightly reduces lattice size while enhancing structural flexibility. Band-structure analysis (GGA, SOC, hybrid-PBE) shows decreasing band gaps with NH4 doping from 2.52 eV to 2.09 eV, with the CBM dominated by Bi states and the VBM by halide p states. Multi-configurational wave-function theory (MC-WFT) that combines the complete active space self-consistent field (CASSCF) approach with subsequent state interaction treatment of spin-orbit coupling, abbreviated as CASSCF-SO, plays important roles in the microscopic understanding of single-ion magnets (SIMs) with different central transition metal or lanthanide ions and various coordination environments, but its application to SIMs with complex structures is severely limited due to its highly demanding computational cost.
