The aim of this study was to achieve aerobic granulation utilizing fermented municipal wastewater under low pH, and alkalinity conditions. Stable granulation was achieved after a 166-day start-up period. Due to low influent strength, supplemental carbon addition, in the form of sucrose, was added to the feed storage tank on the 82nd day of start-up to facilitate granulation. 2-Benzhydryl-4-methyl-6-(1,1'-diphenyl-2-phenyl-ethyl)aniline was prepared by a three-step process. 2,6-Bis(benzhydryl)-4-methyl-aniline was protected by Schiff coupling, then benzylated and finally dealkylated by using hydrochloric acid and methanol. The resulting compound exhibits one of the highest buried volumes around the nitrogen atom of anilines prepared so far, but it reacts with phosphorus trichloride and triethylamine to give a monomeric chloro(imino)phosphine.

Oxidative C-C/P-H cross-coupling is achieved via Pd-catalyzed decarbonylative cross-coupling of aroylhydrazides with P(O)H compounds. The unique cooperative reaction system, especially the Brønsted acid and bidentate phosphine ligand, allows the selective activation of the inert C-C bond and the suppression of the undesired oxidation and coordination of >P(O)-H compounds, leading to a general oxidative synthesis of aryl phosphorus compounds from easily available substrates.

[reaction: see text] Reductive cleavage of the carbon-sulfur bond present in S-alkyl-thionocarbonates (xanthates) was achieved by high-yielding, tin-free radical reactions based on phosphorus reagents. The combination hypophosphorous acid/triethylamine/AIBN led to fast, efficient, and smooth formation of the alkane. Reduction with diethyl phosphite was sufficiently slow to permit sequential intermolecular addition of a 2-oxoalkyl xanthate onto an olefin followed by cleavage of the newly formed carbon-sulfur bond.

In this work, a green sludge bioflocculant (SBF) was prepared via chemical hydrolysis of dewatered sludge and applied to flocculation of domestic wastewater. The process parameters for the preparation of the SBF were 1.80 % hydrochloric acid concentration, 60 min extraction time, and 4000 r/min centrifugation speed. Preparative thin-layer chromatograms of chloroform-methanol extracts of Borrelia burgdorferi (B31) sonicates showed four fractions (Rf values of 0.84, 0.81, 0.66 and 0.61) that stained with iodine vapors, orcinol, or phospray, suggesting the presence of lipid-, carbohydrate-, and phosphorus-containing compounds. Sera from patients with Lyme disease showed IgM or IgG antibody reactivity to hydrophobic fractions, designated F1 and F2, in both early and late stages of the disease. Lack of constitutive amino acids in these fractions was shown by protein, amino acid, and peptide detection analyses.
