OBJECTIVE: This study retrospectively investigated whether polyglycolic acid (PGA) sheet attached to the bone surface using fibrin glue facilitate faster epithelialization of the mastoid bowl after canal wall-down (CWD) tympanoplasty compared to a simple dressing using poly-N-acetyl-glucosamine (Kichin) sheet.

We report a case of skin necrosis of the nasal tip after an injection of ribose cross-linked porcine atelocollagen (Evolence; Colbar Life Science Ltd, Herzliya, Israel). A 22-year-old woman had a nasal augmentation. From the glabella to the nasal tip, 10 strokes were injected using 0.6 mL of Evolence. AIMS: Cicatricial upper eyelid retraction with exposure keratopathy and impending corneal perforation requires prompt intervention. Standard procedures such as isolated levator recession, botulinum toxin, and lid weights will only induce a partial ptosis. Conventional tarsorrhaphy, though ideal to achieve complete closure, is likely to result in dehiscence in these cases. This study examined the effect of re-using coverscrews for dental implants (Brånemark) and the influence of re-use on clinical outcome. Nine patients, each receiving 3 implants in either the maxilla or the mandible, received 1 new coverscrew, 1 re-used coverscrew, and a third coverscrew that had been used multiple times. In all cases, the re-used coverscrews had been washed, mechanically cleaned, and steam-sterilized prior to re-implantation. Clinical outcome was assessed by X-ray analysis of the mandible/maxilla and light microscopy of histologically prepared sections of the overlying tissue.

We investigated the treatment of benign eyelid lesions with argon laser as an alternative therapy to surgical excision. The charts of 73 patients with 95 lesions treated with argon laser photocoagulation were reviewed retrospectively. In all patients, the procedure was performed for cosmetic reasons. The laser spot size ranged from 50 to 200 μm, the power varied from 300 to 700 mW, and the exposure time ranged between 0.1 and 0.2 s.
