Intervention framework towards a community-driven approach to improve health-seeking in cutaneous leishmaniasis in rural Sri Lanka.

BACKGROUND: Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is a re-emerging neglected tropical disease (NTD) in Sri Lanka. The prevention and control of CL mainly rely on early detection and treatment. The WHO roadmap for NTDs highlights the importance of community-based approaches to reduce disease burden. Accordingly, our study aimed to design and evaluate the feasibility of a community-based intervention framework to improve early and appropriate health-seeking in CL in rural Sri Lanka. METHODS: We designed the intervention by integrating key principles of community engagement and involvement (CEI) with the

Evaluating community-based digital health interventions to improve COVID-19 outcomes in rural Indonesia: a quasi-experimental study.

OBJECTIVES: COVID-19 has challenged health systems in low-income and middle-income countries, particularly in rural areas where communities face barriers to information, prevention and timely care. Digital health interventions delivered through community health workers (CHWs) offer a promising approach to closing these gaps. This study evaluated whether a CHW-led digital intervention improved knowledge, attitudes and practices (KAP), vaccination uptake, COVID-19 outcomes and access to hospital care in rural Indonesia. METHODS: A quasi-experimental study was conducted from June 2022 to June 20

Bridging urban-rural disparities in malaria care during pregnancy in Senegal: evidence from household and health facility surveys.

BACKGROUND: Despite the World Health Organization's recommendations, the uptake of Intermittent Preventive Treatment in pregnancy with sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine (IPTp-SP) in Senegal remains suboptimal, with disparities observed between urban and rural areas. More remains to be known about how malaria service readiness would affect the utilization of IPTp-SP. METHODS: Data were obtained from seven annual rounds of Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) and Service Provision Assessments (SPA) in Senegal from 2012 to 2019. Using sample domain linkage to link the databases at the regional level. A

One Health Lens on Rabies: Human-Bat Interactions and Genomic Insights of Rabies Virus in Rural Lilongwe, Malawi.

Rabies, a fatal zoonotic disease, affects humans, domestic animals, and wildlife predominantly in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. In Malawi, rabies virus (RABV) is primarily transmitted by infected dogs, impacting humans and cattle. Lyssavirus has also been documented in insectivorous bats. A community survey near bat roosts assessed knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding bat-borne zoonoses. Bat samples were tested for lyssavirus using RT-PCR, and RABV genomes from humans and domestic animals were sequenced and analysed phylogenetically. The survey revealed that 50% of participants con

HIV, multimorbidity, and health-related quality of life in rural KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa: A population-based study.

Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) assesses the perceived impact of health status across life domains. Although research has explored the relationship between specific conditions, including HIV, and HRQoL in low-resource settings, less attention has been paid to the association between multimorbidity and HRQoL. In a secondary analysis of cross-sectional data from the Vukuzazi ("Wake up and know ourselves" in isiZulu) study, which identified the prevalence and overlap of non-communicable and infectious diseases in the uMkhanyakunde district of KwaZulu-Natal, we (1) evaluated the impact of m
