Granulocytic sarcoma is a rare solid malignant tumor that occurs in patients with acute myeloid leukemia. As such, granulocytic sarcoma without leukemia occurring in long bones is quite rare. This case report describes an isolated granulocytic sarcoma of the right humerus in an 82-year-old woman in the absence of acute myeloid leukemia. The patient was admitted to our hospital with a pathological fracture of the right humerus. An incisional biopsy was performed, and the pathological diagnosis was granulocytic sarcoma. Radiotherapy (45 Gy) to the humerus resulted in a good clinical outcome with

Myeloid sarcomas (MS) are the extramedullary presentation of acute myeloid leukemias. At times, they are difficult to diagnose due to lack of any supportive findings in peripheral blood/bone marrow aspirate examination. The involvement of gastrointestinal tract (GIT) by myeloid sarcoma is rare phenomenon. This diagnostic challenge becomes more complex when it is added by vague clinical symptoms. Many times, they have been misdiagnosed as Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, small round cell tumour or carcinoma. Here, we are reporting a case of myeloid sarcoma with no haematological abnormality which presen

Myeloid sarcoma is a very rare solid tumor which frequently accompanies myeloproliferative disorders and consists of immature myeloid cells. A 47-year-old male patient admitted to our clinic with complaints of swelling and pain in the right thigh. After diagnosis of myeloid sarcoma was made with tru-cut biopsy, acute myeloid leukemia was diagnosed by hematology clinic as a result of peripheral smear and bone marrow biopsy. No surgical intervention was performed. Patient was treated with chemotherapy for acute myeloid leukemia, and allogeneic bone marrow transplantation. In the follow-up period

Granulocytic sarcoma also known as extramedullary myeloid sarcoma or chloroma is an uncommon manifestation of leukemia and presents as a deposit of leukemic cells outside the bone marrow. We report a case of a twenty-five-year-old pregnant woman who presented with progressive dysphagia and recurrent postprandial vomiting. Upper GI endoscopy had shown large flat laterally spread nodular lesions in the cardia and proximal body of stomach. Biopsies from the gastric lesion showed granulocytic sarcoma of the stomach. Concurrent peripheral and bone marrow picture was suggestive of acute myeloid leuk

We present a rare case of myeloid sarcoma in the stomach of an elderly woman initially diagnosed with anaemia. Myeloid sarcoma, an unusual extramedullary manifestation of acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), primarily affects lymph nodes, bones, spine and skin, with gastrointestinal involvement being infrequent. Despite normal results from the initial endoscopy, a follow-up examination after 4 months revealed multiple submucosal gastric tumours. These developments coincided with worsening of anaemia and an increase in peripheral myeloblasts. Pathological evaluation and immunohistochemical staining c

A 64-year-old male presented with a rapidly growing anterior mediastinal mass during the clinical course of atypical chronic myeloid leukemia. A needle biopsy performed for suspected myeloid sarcoma revealed the presence of Aspergillus abscess. Early diagnosis of mediastinal abscesses, which are associated with a high mortality rate, can prevent the progression of severity. Infectious abscesses should be considered for prompt qualitative diagnosis in patients with mediastinal masses. Thymoma, germ cell tumor, and malignant lymphoma are the most common anterior mediastinal tumors, whereas infec

Chloroma, also called granulocytic sarcoma or myeloid sarcoma, is a rare malignant extramedullary neoplasm of myeloid precursor cells that occurs usually in association with acute myeloid leukaemia or blast phase of chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML). The chloromas are regarded as an early herald of a systemic relapse, rather than as a localised process. The author reports a rare case of multiple skin chloromas in the chronic phase of CML. The patient was treated initially with hydroxyurea and chloromas disappeared. Patient has been followed for around three and half years and maintained in chron

This article reviews the features of dendritic cells (DCs) of myeloid-derived, plasmacytoid, and follicle-associated types and tumors of these cells, as well as myeloid sarcoma. The morphologic and immunophenotypic features in this group of neoplasms is featured, including mature neoplasms such as Langerhans cell histiocytosis, its malignant counterpart Langerhans cell sarcoma, and S100-negative histiocytic proliferations. More immature or precursor malignancies in this group include myeloid and monocytic leukemias presenting in extramedullary tissues as well as the newly codified blastic plas

OBJECTIVE: Granulocytic sarcoma also called myeloid sarcoma is an extramedullary tumour of immature granulocytic cells. It is a rare entity, and mostly accompanied by acute myeloid leukaemia. It is observed during the course of myeloproliferative disorders especially in chronic myeloid leukaemia and myelodysplastic syndromes.
CONCLUSIONS: Here, we report a case of a 60-year-old male with past history of myelofibrosis admitted to the emergency room due ulceronecrotic lesions, fever and dysphagia. We emphasize the importance of recognizing this entity and its severity.

A 61-year-old female presented with the complaints of fever and left back pain. She had previously undergone bone marrow transplantation for acute myeloid leukemia and achieved remission. Abdominal computed tomography (CT) revealed left hydronephrosis and suspected tumor lesions in the right upper ureter and left lower ureter. Ureteroscopy was performed for a diagnosis. A yellowish tumor was detected in the left lower ureter, and tissue biopsy was performed. Two weeks after the examination, abdominal CT revealed ascites and retroperitoneal dissemination. The results of the ascites cytology sho

The diagnosis of primitive hematologic malignancies in extramedullary sites (lymphoblastic lymphoma of T- or B-cell type and myeloid sarcoma) on paraffin-embedded tissue sections is difficult and often impossible because of the primitive morphology of the neoplastic cells. The authors studied 21 extramedullary tumors of lymphoid or myeloid blasts. They used a panel of 22 antibodies on frozen sections and 9 antibodies on paraffin sections to determine the spectrum of immunophenotypes and to develop a practical panel for diagnosis. All but two of the cases could be classified as lymphoid or myel

Erythroid sarcoma is a very rare subtype of myeloid sarcoma with undetermined biological features. Here, we present an infant with a multifocal erythroid sarcoma, diagnosed because the tumor cells were positive for glycophorin A. After acute myeloid leukemia-oriented chemotherapy and surgical resection followed by cord blood transplantation, he has successfully maintained complete remission without any late effects. Total transcriptome analysis of the tumor identified a novel fusion gene, RCC1-LCK, and high LCK expression levels, suggesting that LCK overexpression was involved in leukemogenesi

BACKGROUND: Granulocytic sarcoma (GS) is an uncommon extramedullary tumor composed of dense aggregates of immature myeloid precursor cells, which is usually associated with acute or chronic myeloid leukemia. The tumor may also be a predecessor to acute myeloid leukemia (AML). It may be found in any location throughout the body; however, intraoral occurrence is extremely rare. This report describes a case of gingival granulocytic sarcoma that developed prior to AML in a 12-year-old female.
METHODS AND RESULTS: The patient, who had a 3-month history of gingival enlargement, was diagnosed as hav

Synovial sarcoma is an aggressive soft-tissue cancer that shows limited responses to current immunotherapeutic approaches using immune checkpoint blockade or adoptive cell therapy. To improve immunotherapy for this cancer, understanding how the immune cells in the tumor microenvironment associate with histological subtype, disease progression and current therapies is vital. To evaluate the immune infiltrate in synovial sarcoma in relation to histological subtype, disease progression and in response to cytotoxic treatment, we performed immunodetection of T cells, CD68+ myeloid cells, endothelia

Extramedullary myeloid sarcoma is a rare form of myelogenous leukemia. It can involve any anatomical body part. Mediastinal involvement is reported in only few cases. We report on a case of extramedullary myeloid sarcoma presenting as a mediastinal mass in a previously healthy nonleukemic male teenager with primary asthmatic complaints and the signs of superior vena cava syndrome.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) may be associated with extramedullary tumor growth, which is commonly known as myeloid sarcoma. Although AML with leukemic pleural effusion is considered rare, the true incidence is not clear. We report three cases of AML involving pleural effusion in this study. The cases were encountered in a single institute within two years, suggesting that leukemic effusion is more common than previously reported. Leukemic cells showed evidence of monocytic differentiation in all cases. Two patients presented with advanced AML. Both had concurrent myeloid sarcoma. Both were in

Extramedullary leukemia is common in pediatric acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and occurs as a solid tumor (myeloid sarcoma). We report a case of a child who presented with acute onset of paraparesis and found to have intracranial and paravertebral mass; subsequently, he was diagnosed as having AML on tissue biopsy. He was started on AML treatment protocol, and later he was in remission and myeloid sarcoma got cleared from intracranial and paravertebral region. Timely diagnosis and initiation of treatment are essential to improve survival in such cases.

The development of a myeloid neoplasm is a step-wise process that originates from leukemic stem cells (LSC) and includes pre-leukemic stages, overt leukemia and a drug-resistant terminal phase. Organ-invasion may occur in any stage, but is usually associated with advanced disease and a poor prognosis. Sometimes, extra-medullary organ invasion shows a metastasis-like or even sarcoma-like destructive growth of neoplastic cells in local tissue sites. Examples are myeloid sarcoma, mast cell sarcoma and localized blast phase of chronic myeloid leukemia. So far, little is known about mechanisms unde

Granulocytic sarcoma is an uncommon extramedullary, solid tumor of myeloid cells. Only rarely has this entity been diagnosed by fine-needle aspiration (FNA) cytology. This report encompasses the cytologic findings of FNAs from seven patients with granulocytic sarcomas, including four male and three female patients with a mean age of 52 years (range, 12 to 77 years). The aspirates were obtained from skin or subcutaneous tissue (four cases), testis (one case), posterior ileum (one case), lymph node (one case), and abdominal washing (one case). Morphology of the aspirates varied from well-differe
