Health Care Provider Willingness to Recommend Self-collected Tests for Human Papillomavirus: A Mixed Methods Examination of Associated Factors.

INTRODUCTION: Cervical cancer disproportionately affects those who are underscreened. Human papillomavirus self-collection is a promising tool to expand screening. OBJECTIVE: Study objectives were to examine 1) factors (provider characteristics and practice type) associated with and 2) attitudes (perceived benefits and concerns) toward using human papillomavirus self-collection for cervical cancer screening in clinical practice. METHODS: This study had a mixed method design; prior to regulatory approval of self-collection, we conducted a national survey and interviews of health care provider

Safety and outcomes of "at-home self-provocation tests" in patients with mild nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug-induced urticaria/angioedema.

BACKGROUND: Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) hypersensitivity is common; however, many patients do not receive an accurate diagnosis and are using unnecessary alternative drugs or have medication restrictions. OBJECTIVE: To establish a protocol for provocation tests that can be performed safely and effectively at home to give patients an accurate diagnosis, whereas also delabeling NSAID hypersensitivity. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed the medical records of 147 patients with NSAID hypersensitivity. All patients had NSAID-induced urticaria/angioedema with less than 10% body s

[Detecting type 2 diabetes after gestational diabetes; a comparison of oral glucose tolerance test and at-home self-monitoring].

Postpartum follow up of patients with gestational diabetes (GDM) is of great importance due to the elevated risk of development of type 2 diabetes after pregnancy. The Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare (Socialstyrelsen) concludes that follow-up is of utmost importance, but there are no guidelines of implementation. At Helsingborg Hospital all patients with insulin and/or metformin treated GDM are offered follow-up oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) at 3 and 12 months postpartum. During the Covid-19 pandemic patients were not offered OGTT but instead instructed to measure glucose lev

An approach for prioritizing candidate genes from RNA-seq using preclinical cocaine self-administration datasets as a test case.

RNA-sequencing (RNA-seq) technology has led to a surge of neuroscience research using animal models to probe the complex molecular mechanisms underlying brain function and behavior, including substance use disorders. However, findings from rodent studies often fail to be translated into clinical treatments. Here, we developed a novel pipeline for narrowing candidate genes from preclinical studies by translational potential and demonstrated its utility in 2 RNA-seq studies of rodent self-administration. This pipeline uses evolutionary conservation and preferential expression of genes across bra

Implementation of a self-sampling HPV test for non-responders to cervical cancer screening in Japan: secondary analysis of the ACCESS trial.

A self-sampling human papillomavirus (HPV) test could improve the morbidity and mortality of cervical cancer in Japan. However, its effectiveness and feasibility have not been demonstrated sufficiently. Hence, we launched a randomized controlled trial, which is ongoing, and report the results of a secondary analysis. To ensure autonomous participation with a minimum selection bias, opt-out consent was obtained from women who met the inclusion criteria, and written consent was obtained from those who underwent a self-sampling test. The number of women who met the inclusion criteria was 20,555;

Daily-Living Freezing of Gait as Quantified Using Wearables in People With Parkinson Disease: Comparison With Self-Report and Provocation Tests.

OBJECTIVE: Freezing of gait (FOG) is an episodic, debilitating phenomenon that is common among people with Parkinson disease. Multiple approaches have been used to quantify FOG, but the relationships among them have not been well studied. In this cross-sectional study, we evaluated the associations among FOG measured during unsupervised daily-living monitoring, structured in-home FOG-provoking tests, and self-report. METHODS: Twenty-eight people with Parkinson disease and FOG were assessed using self-report questionnaires, percentage of time spent frozen (%TF) during supervised FOG-provoking

Impact of lowering ski binding settings on the outcome of the self-release test of ski bindings among female recreational skiers.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The ability to successfully self-release the ski binding can prevent skiing-related injuries of the lower extremities. Failure of binding release associated with a knee injury is significantly higher among females compared to males. The International Standards Organization ISO 11088 standard for binding setting values allows a lowering by 15% upon request of the skier. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of lowered ski binding settings by 15% on the outcome of the self-release test among female recreational skiers. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this rand

Behavioral avoidance and self-reported fainting symptoms in blood/injury fearful individuals: an experimental test of disgust domain specificity.

This study examined the specificity of disgust in predicting avoidance in blood/injury (BI) phobia. Participants high (n=38) and low (n=46) in BI fear completed measures of disgust across multiple domains and severity of BI-related fear. They then completed three randomly presented behavioral avoidance tasks (BATs) that consisted of exposure to a 15'' severed deer leg (BI task), a live spider (spider task), and a 'contaminated' cookie (cookie task). Fainting symptoms associated with each BAT were recorded as well. When controlling for gender and BI fear group membership, mutilation disgust con
