AA-amyloidosis is a disease characterized by abnormal deposition of serum A amyloid (SAA) peptide along with other components in various organs. The disease is a complication of inflammatory conditions that cause persistent high levels of the acute phase reactant SAA in plasma. A 20-year-old Japanese woman with an epidermal cyst on the back is described. Physical examination revealed a deep blue and round shaped cystic lesion measuring 10 min in diameter. Lymph node involvement in cat scratch disease is characterized by a granulomatous lymphadenitis with micro-abscesses. Recently, it has been shown that the possible aetiological agent is a micro-organism which stains with some silver stains. In this study 60 lymph nodes were studied from 60 patients, using a modified Dieterlé's stain. In 40 cases (66%) rod-shaped bacilli with rounded extremities were observed. PURPOSE: To examine the distribution of reticular fibers in the upper eyelid of East Asians.
METHODS: Central sagittal sections of 24 upper eyelids were obtained from 15 East Asian cadavers aged 36 to 94 years. The specimens were fixed in 10% formalin and stained with silver nitrate.
