Bone block from lateral window - correcting vertical and horizontal bone deficiency in maxilla posterior site: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Lateral window approach for sinus floor lift is commonly used for vertical bone augmentation in cases when the residual bone height is less than 5 mm. However, managing cases becomes more challenging when a maxillary sinus pseudocyst is present or when there is insufficient bone width. In this case, we utilized the bone window prepared during the lateral window sinus lift as a shell for horizontal bone augmentation. This allowed for simultaneous horizontal and vertical bone augmentation immediately after the removal of the maxillary sinus pseudocyst. CASE SUMMARY: A 28-year-old fe

Association of Inflammatory Status and Maxillary Sinus Schneiderian Membrane Thickness.

OBJECTIVES: Certain Schneiderian membrane thicknesses (SMT) have shown to be more prone to tearing/perforation, and some pathologies might influence SMT. Henceforth, we aimed at studying the correlation of inflammatory status to SMT in human fresh cadaver heads. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A total of 14 fresh cadaver heads including 27 Schneiderian membrane specimens were histologically collected. A 10-item inflammatory score was determined in the entire sample and also in the thinner and thicker areas of each sample. Data was analyzed by using the Wilcoxon rank test and the Spearman's rank correla

Single-Tooth Osteotomy Using Piezoelectric Devices to Treat an Ankylosed Maxillary Molar.

Single-tooth osteotomy is a surgical technique in which the tooth and adjacent bone with sufficient soft tissue are repositioned in a single step or moved orthodontically. It is not used in the maxillary posterior region because of poor accessibility, bleeding complications, and anatomical limitations such as the maxillary sinus. However, the development of piezoelectric surgical devices and the popularization of the sinus floor elevation procedure have simplified the approach to the posterior maxillary area. This article reports two cases of single-tooth osteotomy of ankylosed teeth that were

Maxillary sinus-floor elevation with nanoporous biphasic bone graft material for early implant placement.

BACKGROUND: Insufficient bone height in the posterior maxilla is caused by bone atrophy after tooth extraction and continued pneumatization of the maxillary sinus. To allow for implant placement in this area, external sinus-floor elevations are performed. For this indication, the application of various bone graft materials can be a reliable alternative to autologous bone. PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to analyze a nanoporous bone graft material under the condition of early implant treatment in sinus floor elevations. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Sixty-six patients received 94 individual exter

Does intraoperative perforation of Schneiderian membrane during sinus lift surgery causes an increased the risk of implants failure?: A systematic review and meta regression analysis.

PURPOSE: There is still debate whether intraoperative Schneiderian membrane (SM) perforation in the maxillary sinus lift causes an increase the risk of implants failure. The aim of this study was to assess an association between SM perforation and implants loss following the maxillary sinus lift. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A systematic review and meta-analysis of clinical studies assessing association between SM perforation and implants failure based on PRISMA was conducted. Three major databases were used to gather research dating from their respective inception up until March 2018. All clinical

Autologous platelet concentrates for bone graft enhancement in sinus lift procedure.

BACKGROUND: Autologous platelet (PLT)-rich plasma has been reported in some studies to promote osteogenesis. The goal of this study was to demonstrate that osteogenesis gained by mixing autologous PLT concentrates (APCs) with a small quantity of autologous bone graft could give a sufficient quality to lead to dental implant placement. The second goal was to compare this osteogenesis with that obtained by a traditional method (iliac bone graft), through clinical, radiologic, and histologic methods. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: Eighteen patients needing bilateral sinus floor augmentation were enro…
