Atomic spectrometry, specifically inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) and mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) show promise for heteroatom-based detection of pharmaceutical compounds. This prospective case-control study was undertaken on 78 women between 15 to 45 years of age from rural area to see alteration of serum zinc due to oral contraceptive (OC) use. Of the subjects, 34 women was taken as controls having no history of taking any form of hormonal contraceptives neither during the time of selection nor during one-year period prior to the study. Several 1-aryloxy-2-substituted aminomethyltetrahydronaphthalenes (7-21) as conformationally rigid analogues of fluoxetine were synthesized and evaluated for their anorexigenic and antidepressant activities. For SAR studies the related acyclic analogues (22-27) were also prepared. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the relationship between allergic and nonallergic rhinitis and the exposure to air pollution.
DESIGN: Blood cadmium levels were measured in 30 patients with allergic rhinitis, 30 patients with nonallergic rhinitis, and 16 normal control subjects using atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The cadmium level was used as a parameter of degree and proximity of exposure to air pollution from various sources.

Studies performed in the last decade have shown the importance of zinc in human physiology particularly in cell mediated immunity. Blood zinc values were assayed with the atomic absorption method using a Perkin/Elmer 2.380 spectrophotometer in 35 Down's syndrome subjects (DS) (16 boys and 19 girls aged 6 months 20 years) and in normal subjects in good health. In the photochemical degradation of bilirubin under anaerobic condition, the bilirubin riboflavin-system behaves as an equilibrium electrochemical system characterized by a redox-potential. Bilirubin decomposes irreversibly and riboflavin functions as a reversible electron acceptor. OBJECTIVES: The development of calcification-resistant bioprosthetic materials is a very important challenge for paediatric surgery. The subcutaneous implantation in rats is the well-known first-stage model for this kind of research. Using this model, we aimed to compare calcification of the porcine aortic wall and bovine pericardium and jugular vein wall cross-linked with glutaraldehyde (GA) and ethylene glycol diglycidyl ether (DE). We also determined the efficacy of DE-preserved tissue modification with 2-(2-carboxyethylamino)ethylidene-1,1-bisphosphonic acid (CEABA).
