INTRODUCTION: A new articular syndrome described as immunrelated side effect of immunotherapy: PD-1 inhibitors have revolutionized the treatment of advanced melanoma but are responsible for immune-related toxicity. We report a case of remitting seronegative symetrical synovitis with pitting edema (RS3PE) syndrome induced by nivolumab.
CASE REPORT: A 80 year-old man with stage IV BRAF-wild type and NRAS exon 2-mutated melanoma was treated first line by nivolumab 3mg/kg every 2 weeks. At week 4, before the 3rd infusion, he presented with inflammatory arthralgia, synovitis of proximal interphala…

UNLABELLED: Hip pain, in the paediatric population, is a common complaint and a cause for admission. There are several diagnoses one has to keep in mind, when making the differential diagnosis, as the treatment for each can be quite different. Often, the radiographs obtained for these patients turn up normal. Hence one has to rely on clinical findings, laboratory parameters, and possibly an ultrasound investigation in order to clinch the diagnosis and initiate the appropriate treatment.
KEY WORDS: Paediatric, hip, pain, normal radiographs.

BACKGROUND: Previous studies on the same group of patients investigated here demonstrated the effectiveness of radiosynovectomy in the treatment of chronic haemophilic synovitis even if one, two or three radiosynovectomy procedures (RS-1, RS-2, RS-3) may be necessary. The purpose of this study was to determine whether the joints' response to each radiosynovectomy procedure behaved independently or not.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: One hundred and fifty-six radiosynovectomies were performed in 104 joints of 78 people diagnosed with chronic haemophilic synovitis. The patient's mean age was 18 years. …

Pigmented villonodular synovitis is a benign, proliferative disorder of unknown etiology that mainly affects the synovium of the joint, bursa, and the tendon sheath. The most common joint affected is the knee. Pigmented villonodular synovitis presents in either of 2 distinct forms, localized or diffuse. In this report, we describe a case of diffuse pigmented villonodular synovitis that presented in the knee 18 months after total knee arthroplasty. The diagnosis was suggested by histologic analysis of bloody aspirate and by abnormal synovial proliferation noted at arthroscopy and confirmed by h…

BACKGROUND: Progress has been made in the design of bioabsorbable implants, with reduced complication rates and slower degradation times.
P … luation and debridement.
RESULTS: Nine patients had gross implant debris. Evidence of glenohumeral synovitis was seen arthroscopically in all 10 patients. Three patients had significant full-thickness chondral damage on the humeral head. All preexisting labral lesions were healed. One year after arthroscopic debridement, loose body removal, and synovectomy …

Pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) is a disease that involves the lining of joints, bursae and tendon sheaths. The incidence is low and estimated to be 1.8 patients per million population. The cause of PVNS is unclear and discussed to be either inflammatory or neoplastic. PVNS has been described in 2 forms different for prognosis and treatment (nodular and diffuse). The articular form almost appears in the knee joint as we describe below in a 14 year-old patient. PVNS was first defined in 1941 by Jaffe e.a. [7]. Because of the uncommon occurrence of the disease it is difficult to amass pa…

Giant cell tumors of synovium (pigmented villonodular synovitis) involving the vertebral column recently have been seen in two women: the third and fourth cases to be reported in the English-language literature. Unlike the previously reported cases, both these tumors grew outside the dura and produced symptoms of spinal cord compression. The first case involved lumbar vertebrae 5 and 6; the second, lumbar vertebrae 2 and 3. Even though initial resection of both tumors was incomplete, the patients improved postoperatively. One tumor was known to be unresectable at the time of surgery. In the ot…

Background/Objectives: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a multifactorial degenerative joint disease characterized by synovial inflammation, oxidative … ment-specific therapeutic profile, suggesting that NAC may function as a symptom-modifying agent in synovitis-dominant OA rather than a structure-modifying therapy. Future studies should focus on optimized delivery systems or combination strategies targeting cartilage and subchondral bone to achieve disease modification.

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether decreased femoral head enhancement on MRI differentiates septic arthritis from transient synovitis.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective study included children < 10 years old with hip effusion on post-contrast MRI for suspected musculoskeletal infection. Two pediatric radiologists independently assessed femoral head enhancement. Kocher and modified Kocher scores were calculated from clinical and lab data. Differences between septic arthritis and transient synovitis were analyzed using Student's t-tests and Fisher's exact tests. Sensitivity and specificity…

INTRODUCTION: pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) is a benign condition that affects the knee, leading to abnormal proliferation of the synovial membrane and the accumulation of hemosiderin in the joint cavity. Although it can be surgically treated, PVNS tends to have a high recurrence rate, potentially resulting in chronic joint damage.
CASE REPORT: we present the case of a young woman who experienced localized pain in her right knee due to a recurrence of PVNS. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed multiple multilobulated cystic lesions affecting the entire joint, including the ligaments.…

RATIONALE: Osteoid osteoma, accounting for approximately 10% of benign bone tumors, is predominantly found in long bones and rarely in the foot bones, such as the talus. Its nonspecific symptoms, such as nocturnal pain and swelling, often lead to misdiagnosis, especially when it mimics conditions like ankle synovitis.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 27-year-old male presented with persistent pain and swelling in his left ankle following an injury at the gym. Initial treatments, including arthroscopic debridement, failed to resolve his symptoms.
DIAGNOSES: Comprehensive evaluation using magnetic resonanc…

PURPOSE: Pigmented Villonodular Synovitis (PVNS) is a proliferative disease arising from the synovial membrane, mainly affects large joints such as the knee (almost 80% of total). Prostheses implanted in PVNS osteoarthritis show a higher revision rate when compared to primary osteoarthritis, due to the recurrence of disease and the overall surgical complications. The purpose of this systematic review is to summarize and compare indications, clinical and functional outcomes, disease-related and surgical-related complications of total knee arthroplasty in PVNS osteoarthritis.

BACKGROUND: Synovitis is one of the defining characteristics of osteoarthritis (OA) in the carpometacarpal (CMC1) joint of the thumb. Quantitative characterization of synovial volume is important for furthering our understanding of CMC1 OA disease progression, treatment response, and monitoring strategies. In previous studies, three-dimensional ultrasound (3-D US) has demonstrated the feasibility of being a point-of-care system for monitoring knee OA. However, 3-D US has not been tested on the smaller joints of the hand, which presents unique physiological and imaging challenges.
PURPOSE: To …

A 79-year-old man presented with fatigue and right shoulder pain. Computed tomography revealed right pleural effusion and osteosclerosis of the sternoclavicular joint. There were no signs of malignancy or infection in the pleural fluid studies. His bone scintigraphy exhibited the "bull's head sign." Despite the absence of skin lesions, he was diagnosed with synovitis-acne-pustulosis-hyperostosis-osteitis (SAPHO) syndrome. Remission was achieved after treatment with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and oral prednisolone. SAPHO syndrome causes pleural effusion, even in patients without skin…
