Social-Ecological Examination of Non-Consensual Sexting Perpetration among U.S. Adolescents.

Adolescent sexting is a serious public health concern and is associated with adverse psychosocial outcomes, including depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, declining academic performance, and health problems. Effective prevention of sexting requires a comprehensive and deep understanding of the multiple contexts whereby sexting is likely to occur. The present study explores individual and contextual risk and protective factors that are associated with sexting behavior among a large sample of adolescents. Participants were high school students in midwestern U.S. (N = 2501; LGB n = 309, 76.4% fe

Automated telecommunication interventions to promote adherence to cardio-metabolic medications: meta-analysis of effectiveness and meta-regression of behaviour change techniques.

Automated telecommunication interventions, including short message service and interactive voice response, are increasingly being used to promote adherence to medications prescribed for cardio-metabolic conditions. This systematic review aimed to comprehensively assess the effectiveness of such interventions to support medication adherence, and to identify the behaviour change techniques (BCTs) and other intervention characteristics that are positively associated with greater intervention effectiveness. Meta-analysis of 17 randomised controlled trials showed a small but statistically significa

Caregiver-mediated therapy for an adult with visual and intellectual impairment suffering from separation anxiety.

BACKGROUND: Separation anxiety among intellectually disabled (ID) persons with comorbid visual impairment could be rooted in a weak sense of person permanence. Technology-assisted Therapy for Separation Anxiety (TTSA) was used to address this problem. AIMS: The primary aim was to determine whether technology alone or including caregivers was the best option, and whether TTSA decreased separation anxiety and challenging behaviour. Also, how the caregivers and the client experienced TTSA. METHODS AND PROCEDURES: A pre-experimental, quantitative approach (AB1C1B2C2D) was used for this single-su

The high cost of direct marketing from wagering operators, tipsters and affiliates: An ecological momentary assessment of how wagering promotions drive betting, expenditure, and harm.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Wagering direct marketing is prolific, but no research has examined its relationship with gambling harm, nor the effects of direct marketing from wagering affiliates and tipsters. This study aimed to 1) examine the extent to which frequent bettors receive more direct promotional messages from wagering operators, free betting information services, and paid tipsters, and 2) assess longitudinal associations between message exposure and the number of bets placed, amount spent on betting, and short-term betting-related harm. METHODS: An ecological momentary assessment administ

The Effect of Women's Differential Access to Messages on Their Adoption of Mobile Health Services and Pregnancy Behavior in Bangladesh: Retrospective Cross-Sectional Study.

BACKGROUND: Text or voice messages have been used as a popular method for improving women's knowledge on birth preparedness and newborn health care practices worldwide. The Aponjon service in Bangladesh provides twice-weekly messages to female subscribers about their pregnancy and newborn care on mobile phones that they own or share with family members. It is important to understand whether women's singular access to a phone affects their service satisfaction and the adoption of health messages before deploying such interventions in resource-limited settings. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to eva

Addressing challenges in outreach and recruitment: A case study of an NIH-funded randomized controlled trial.

Success of randomized controlled trials depends on effective recruitment and retention to ensure adequate power and generalizability. Historically underrepresented populations continue to face logistical, psychological, and socioeconomic barriers to participation despite movement toward pragmatic study design. This paper describes the multifaceted recruitment approaches used to identify and engage young pregnant women with low-income in a behavioral intervention study. Adaptive recruitment strategies employed in this study led to recruitment of 341 individuals in 49 months, with 84% of individ

A randomized digital behavioral intervention for prenatal and postpartum weight outcomes in women with overweight or obesity: the GROWell trial.

BACKGROUND: Rising rates of overweight and obesity globally have led to an increasing number of women who enter pregnancy with excess weight, posing significant health risks to mothers and infants. Mobile health interventions, such as smartphone apps, may be a solution to improving pregnancy outcomes, however, limited randomized studies have examined this approach for gestational weight gain (GWG) and postpartum weight retention (PPWR). We report results from a double-blinded, randomized control trial of Goals for Reaching Optimal Wellness (GROWell), a mobile app and text-based intervention de

Mobile phone interventions to improve health outcomes among patients with chronic diseases: an umbrella review and evidence synthesis from 34 meta-analyses.

This umbrella review of 34 meta-analyses, representing 235 randomised controlled trials done across 52 countries and 48 957 participants and ten chronic conditions, aimed to evaluate evidence on the efficacy of mobile phone interventions for populations with chronic diseases. We evaluated the strengths of evidence via the Fusar-Poli and Radua methodology. Compared with usual care, mobile apps had convincing effects on glycated haemoglobin reduction among adults with type 2 diabetes (d=0·44). Highly suggestive effects were found for both text messages and apps on various outcomes, including med

INcentives and ReMINDers to Improve Long-Term Medication Adherence (INMIND): impact of a pilot randomized controlled trial in a large HIV clinic in Uganda.

INTRODUCTION: Habits are a common strategy for successfully countering medication non-adherence, yet existing interventions do not support participants during the long habit formation period, resulting in high attrition. We test a novel intervention combining text messages and incentives with anchoring to support antiretroviral therapy (ART) pill-taking habits. METHODS: In a randomized, parallel controlled trial, a sample of 155 participants 18 years and older who initiated ART within 3 months were recruited at Mildmay Uganda between October 2021 and April 2022. All participants were educated
