The role of universities in enhancing interprofessional collaboration during COVID-19 in Lebanon: academia as neutral convener in a public-private twinning initiative-a qualitative case study.

BACKGROUND: The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic underscored the importance of interprofessional collaboration, including partnerships between academic institutions and healthcare organizations. Such collaborations, however, are challenging to initiate and sustain during public health emergencies. This study examines the role and perceived effectiveness of academic involvement within a public-private twinning initiative designed to strengthen COVID-19 response capacities in Lebanon. METHODS: Using a qualitative case study design, we conducted 25 semi-structured interviews between

Vaccine conspiracy association with higher COVID-19 vaccination side effects and negative attitude towards booster COVID-19, influenza and monkeypox vaccines: A pilot study in Saudi Universities.

Conspiracies regarding vaccines are widely prevalent, with negative consequences on health-seeking behaviors. The current study aimed to investigate the possible association between the embrace of vaccine conspiracies and the attitude to booster COVID-19, seasonal influenza, and monkeypox (mpox) vaccinations as well as the perceived side effects following COVID-19 vaccination. The target population involved academic staff and university students in health colleges in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. A self-administered questionnaire was distributed in January 2023 to collect data on participants'

Epidemiology of chronic occupational exposure to formaldehyde: report of the Ad Hoc Panel on Health Aspects of Formaldehyde. Universities Associated for Research and Education in Pathology, Inc.

An independent, international panel of scientists reviewed and evaluated the relevant literature on occupational and environmental exposure to formaldehyde and subsequent epidemiology of cancer in exposed populations. Studies of topical sites (respiratory tract and skin) were considered separately from non-topical sites (other major organ systems) and individual assessments were made of evidence of site-specific cancer risk within the broader categories. In addition to the studies per se, the Panel also took into account critiques and reviews of the published reports. The Panel concluded that:

Next-generation Alzheimer's therapeutics: target assessment and enablement at the Indiana University School of Medicine-Purdue University TREAT-AD Center.

The incidence of Alzheimer's disease (AD) continues to increase, despite decades of effort to develop disease-modifying therapies. In response, the National Institute on Aging (NIA) established the TaRget Enablement to Accelerate Therapy Development for Alzheimer's Disease (TREAT-AD) centers to address the gap between basic research and translational drug discovery. Situated within a robust AD research environment, the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM)-Purdue University TREAT-AD Center is one of two National Institutes of Health (NIH)-supported centers funded to accomplish this miss

Sedentary accumulation patterns and mental health among university teachers: longitudinal evidence from a single-university two-wave cohort.

OBJECTIVE: To examine whether 12-month changes in sedentary accumulation were associated with mental-health outcomes among university teachers while accounting for concurrent changes in total sitting time. METHODS: Full-time teachers (n = 769) completed 7-day activPAL4 monitoring and the World Health Organization-Five Well-Being Index (WHO-5), 10-item Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10), and Maslach Burnout Inventory-Emotional Exhaustion (MBI-EE) at baseline and 12 months. Changes in mean sitting-bout length (MBL), the proportion of sitting time accumulated in bouts ≥30 min (Prolonged30%), and to

A biomechanical comparison of the antegrade inserted universal femoral nail with the retrograde inserted universal tibial nail for use in femoral shaft fractures.

Femoral shaft fractures with and without bony contact were simulated in cadaver specimens fixed with one of two different types of intramedullary locked nail systems; conventional antegrade nail fixation of the femur with the universal AO femoral nail or retrograde insertion in the femur with the universal tibial nail (a smaller diameter slotted nail) were utilized. Mechanical testing simulated one leg stance, and resultant deformation was measured in bending, torsion, and shortening. In stable fractures, fracture stability was similar to both devices, while in unstable fractures, the larger f
