Retinitis pigmentosa associated with Fuchs' heterochromic uveitis.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether the combination of Fuchs' heterochromic uveitis (FHU) and retinitis pigmentosa (RP) in the same patient is coincidental or represents a true association. METHODS: We have examined the frequency of FHU in 338 patients with RP and in 1984 patients who were seen in our primary care ophthalmic clinic because of reasons other than RP. Ciliary body melanoma masquerading as chronic uveitis.

PURPOSE: To report a case of ciliary body melanoma that masqueraded as chronic uveitis. METHODS: A patient experienced persistent unilateral panuveitis and elevated intraocular pressure. Inflammation and pressure worsened after cataract extraction and lens implantation. Diagnostic vitrectomy was non-revealing. RESULTS: Repeat vitrectomy and lens implant removal revealed a ciliary body mass, suggestive of melanoma. Ultrasonography and clinical evaluation by the retinal oncologists supported this diagnosis. Sporothrix schenckii endophthalmitis presenting as granulomatous uveitis.

Sporothrix schenckii occurs worldwide as a chronic subcutaneous mycotic infection, but can result in intraocular infection of cryptogenic origin without evident systemic infection. A case of S schenckii endophthalmitis is presented without a history of trauma or systemic infection originally diagnosed as granulomatous uveitis that resulted in scleral perforation.

Serum interleukin 2-receptor levels in uveitis.

This study reports on serum interleukin 2-receptor (IL-2R) levels in uveitis patients. IL-2R is the mediator protein of interleukin 2 (IL-2), a mitogenetic cytokine of primarily immune cell interaction. Stimulated T-cells readily express IL-2R on their cell surface and release a soluble form into serum. Familial granulomatous synovitis, uveitis, and cranial neuropathies.

A family is presented that had what is believed to be a previously undescribed syndrome of granulomatous synovitis, bilateral recurrent uveitis, and cranial neuropathies. Affected members included the proband, his brother, father, and probably the decreased paternal grandmother. Disease onset was in childhood. Each had symmetric, boggy polysynovitis of the hands and wrists, resulting in nearly identical boutonniere deformities. Clinically silent anterior uveitis in secondary syphilis.

1 In a series of twenty patients with secondary syphilis, ten showed signs of overt or subclinical iritis alone. Nine showed signs of purely subclinical iritis. 2 Nineteen were Caucasian men and the one woman was an unmarried Caribbean nurse. 3 Of the nineteen men, fourteen were homosexuals. 4 All received adequate anti-syphilitic treatment as soon as the diagnosis was made, and all ocular signs of inflammation disappeared within 14 days.

Uveitis despite adalimumab therapy in Blau syndrome.

Blau syndrome is a rare granulomatous autoinflammatory disease caused by NOD2 mutations and characterised by dermatitis, arthritis and uveitis. We report a middle childhood boy initially diagnosed with oligoarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) because arthritis was the predominant early manifestation.
