Comparing the Efficiency of a Newly Designed Spring With the T Loop for Buccal Canine Disimpaction: A Finite Element Study.

Disimpacting a buccally impacted canine precisely using frictionless mechanics is a challenge in orthodontics. Various mechanics can be used for aligning an impacted canine and a spring is one of the most versatile methods of accomplishing it. The present study describes a newly designed spring for canine disimpaction using the finite element method (FEM) model. In the present study, the efficiency of the newly designed spring was compared with the T loop. The FEM model of the maxilla was prepared. Harsha's Canine Disimpaction (HCD) spring and T loop with no pre-activation bends were utilized

Dimensions of pes anserinus of the lower extremity, an anatomical study with its surgical implications.

The reconstructive surgeries utilize pes anserinus (PA) tendons, because of their lesser post-operative clinical deficits and donor site morbidity. These surgeries require anatomical knowledge about the extent of PA formation. The goal of this study was to determine the length and width of the PA formation. The objectives were to measure the distance of its upper limit, lower limit, and vertical distance from the tibial tuberosity (TT). The present descriptive cross sectional study included 53 embalmed cadaveric lower extremities. The upper and lower limits of PA were exposed with the careful

Relationship of craniofacial morphology in 3-dimensional analysis of the pharynx.

INTRODUCTION: Pharynx dimensions may vary according to the position and morphology of the mandible. The aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that craniofacial morphology affects pharyngeal volume and its cross-sectional areas. METHODS: Seventy-four subjects (38 men, 36 women) aged 18 to 56 years (mean ± SD 32.8 ± 1.8 years) were scanned with a cone-beam computed tomography unit and had facial profile photographs taken. All participants were classified according to skeletal anteroposterior (Class II and Class III) and vertical facial patterns (brachyfacial, mesofacial, and dolichofacia

A method of studying adaptive changes of the oropharynx to variation in mandibular position in patients with obstructive sleep apnoea.

The aim of this study was to develop a method of studying the effects of mandibular advancement on oropharyngeal airway dimensions in the sagittal plane in conscious, supine patients. Six white, dentate, male patients with proven obstructive sleep apnoea had sagittal fluoroscopic recordings taken in the resting supine position. Images were recorded at four frames per second as the mandible was advanced with the teeth in contact to maximum protrusion and then opened. Software in the fluoroscopic imaging system permitted measurement of the change in mandibular position together with oropharyngea

[Class II--sagittal dimension].

Normal facial growth displaces maxilla and mandible forward and downward. The result is the skeletal and facial equilibrium described by Angle. In classe-II and class-III cases, growth patterns are modified as well as sagittal and vertical dento-facial dimensions. Development and differential diagnosis of skeletal and dental class-II cases are presented, in relation to their sagittal parameters only. The evolution of a class-II can be predicted with the help of several cephalometric measurements, so that the adequate therapy can be used in time to reestablish proper growth.

A Novel 3D Probe for Near-Field Scanning Microwave Microscopy.

Near-field scanning microwave microscopy (NSMM) offers the ability to probe local electromagnetic properties beyond the classical Abbe diffraction limit, but achieving high resolution over practical scan areas remains challenging. In this work, we introduce a novel three-dimensional (3D) NSMM probe consisting of a split-ring resonator (SRR) coupled to a microstrip line and loaded with vertically extended metallic bars. The 3D loading enhances electric-field localization in the sensing region by introducing field singularities. Full-wave numerical simulations are used to extract the field-sprea
