James Washington Bartlett (1839-1910, FAG Memorial #124715057) was born in Derby Line, Orleans County, Vermont to Nathaniel Bartlett (1791-1866), a harness maker, and Martha Pinkham Bartlett (1798-1847). Little is known about his youth nor his education. He was evidently preceptor trained in dentistry but we were unable to determine with whom.

Homelessness remains a critical public health challenge that significantly increases the risk of premature mortality. Data from the Washington, D.C. Office of the Chief Medical Examiner were used to examine the mortality rates among undomiciled individuals between 2019 and 2023. The cost-effectivness of preventing primary acute rheumatic fever attacks by oral or benzathine penicillin treatment was analyzed for both epidemic and endemic streptococcal pharyngitis situations. Decision analysis was used: the probabilities and the outcome values were calculated from published data. Three penicillin strategies were compared: (A) treating only patients with group A streptococci-positive throat cultures; (B) treating all patients; (C) treating none of the patients. Placental mesenchymal dysplasia is a rare human placental disorder in which the placenta is enlarged and contains cystic villi and dilated vasculature. It is important to recognize this disorder because it may mimic a partial hydatidiform mole. In contrast to a partial mole, mesenchymal dysplasia may coexist with a normal fetus. This case occurred at the Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington, in June 2002.

Ebola survivors (21/27 [77.8%]) suffered more disability than their close contacts (6/54 [11.1%]) (adjusted odds ratio, 23.5 [95% confidence interval, 6.5-85.7]; P < .001) when measured by the Washington Group Disability Extended Questionnaire. Major limitations in vision, mobility, cognition, and affect were observed in survivors 1 year following the 2014-2016 Ebola outbreak, highlighting the need for long-term rehabilitation.
